Esperanto is supported by the language filters and post language settings on Mastodon (more info at https://fedi.tips/setting-your-language-preferences-on-mastodon-and-filtering-out-posts-in-other-languages/). Esperanto's language code is EO.
Someone posted some Esperanto language videos on PeerTube a while back at https://share.tube/a/gxabbo/videos. I don't know if they have plans to post more, but you can follow them at @gxabbo

Have you tried uploading from a different connection, for example on mobile network?
If several connection types are all slow, then it is probably your instance being slow. Ask your instance admin about it, they may be able to help.

@feditips I need a better app for Mastodon. I like the generic one except that it’s very difficult to get to my new notifications. It just goes to old ones until I try over and over and over again. So I still have that app plus I got Ivory, which costs a little bit and is supposed to be great but it’s hard to get to the top of my feed. I tap on the date and it takes me to a day ago, tap again 11 hours ago, tap again another time. It never just goes to the most recent post.

It depends on your instance, the admin has to pay for an integrated translation service (usually an open source one such as LibreTranslate).
Ask your admin if they have this activated on your instance.
As Matte says, if the service is active there will be a "translate" button below posts in other languages.

You might find that third party apps have more of the features you want?
The third party apps tend to be better, the official ones were only introduced because new people were so used to there being official apps.
On iOS you might want to try Ice Cubes, Toot!, Ivory or Mona for example?

@feditips I’m really interested in a detailed description on to use the iOS app - how to use it for filters, lists, etc (or that states things it can’t do). My main access is via iPAD and using a PC isn’t easily convenient. Thanks in advance.

Are you logging into the correct server? (Your server is mastodon.online)
If you can't remember the password there's a password reminder link under the login page of your server. In your case that is at https://mastodon.online/auth/sign_in

#Tusky is a classic app, available also on F-Droid. There exists more members... #Pachli was started based on Tusky 23. And there are #Husky (adding #Pleroma specific stuff) and #Yuito.
Regarding #Mastodon for #Android, there exist #Megalodon and #Moshidon (as forks or family members).
And then of course #Fedilab...
... and some more apps for #Android.

"Favourite" is the nearest equivalent to likes, the one that looks like a star ⭐ .
Boost is like re-tweeting, it shares the post to the timeline of all your followers.

You can't add hashtags to lists (yet) but this is a very popular request. If you're comfortable using github you can vote for it to be added at https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/7692
As @ButterflyOfFire said, one workaround is to use hashtag pinning instead of following hashtags.
Pinning is only available on the web in advanced mode, or on certain third party apps such as Fedilab.

Yeah, that's where the public list would be.
Sometimes you may see the list if you log in on the website, might be worth trying?
If it still isn't visible and you have a particular query, ask your server admin about it.

The tags suggested are ones that your server has noticed from itself and other servers.
Your server will notice things on other servers when at least one person on your server has interacted with it.
Following tags will only work on posts that your server has noticed anyway, it won't actively pull new posts to your server.
However, there is a differnet system called groups which does actively pull new posts to your server. More info at https://fedi.tips/how-to-use-groups-on-the-fediverse/

@feditips I'm trying to find people and hashtags to follow on Mastodon. The platform is clearly still developing, but there don't seem to be many hashtags in my field. I was wondering whether the hashtags shown when you search for them are from one instance or across all Mastodon instances. It seems to me that the latter would be a huge improvement to help the fediverse develop.

Posts made after you requested it should stop showing up, but posts made before that may still be visible.
I don't know which one takes priority if you hide one list and not other though. Let me know if you find results!

This feature was introduced with #Mastodon 4.2.0. Your instance is running v4.2.1, so you should find an option to make a list exclusive.

Bookmarks are ways to keep track of posts, only you can see your bookmarks.
This is different to Favourites ( ⭐ ) which trigger a notification for the person who wrote the post you're favouriting. Favourites are basically likes.
On the official app you can see bookmarks at a bookmark-shaped icon on the profile page, but I would recommend third party apps anyway as they tend to get more and better development.

Usually you just click the profile picture you've uploaded, however I can see you haven't uploaded one. (That's fine by the way, some people don't use them.)
If you're on the website on a computer, it will be on the icon next to your name.
If you're on the website on a phone, it's on the icon in the top right corner.
If you're using an app it will usually be in the bottom right corner or top left corner.

When I use the Android Mastodon app, it automagically bypasses the login.
If I use a different Android app, or a web site using the home computers, at the login do I enter:
gmail_address@gmail.com
mastodon_name@mastodon.instance
OR
@mastodon_name@mastodon.instance

The only way it can bypass the login is if you logged in at some point and it remembers that.
To log in you enter your email address and then your password for the Mastodon account.

You login to your instance... any app will then just get a token to authorize access to your account. So an app will not know your credentials...
So logging in to your instance should be independent from any app.

Hey there, the link preview for YouTube should appear after a short while. You may need to refresh the page if you're using the website.
Also, some apps may not show link previews for privacy reasons.

You have to be following an account to add it to a list. Go to the account page in question and make sure you're following them. Then click the 3-dot menu to the right of their name and click the "Add or Remove from lists" option. From the popup that appears next, you can add that account to existing lists or create a new list.
To view/manage your lists, go to your own profile page then click the 3-dot menu and select the "Lists" option.

@feditips This is awesome, thanks for the link about groups. I have one follow-up though. The page refers to putting the followed groups into lists so that they don't flood your home column. When I try to follow the instructions, it doesn't seem to work for groups, only for individuals. What am I doing wrong do you think?

The hiding of a list's posts only happens for posts that appear after it is selected. So, posts made before that was selected will not be hidden, but ones after that should be.

If you're on the website, Lists are accessible from the Lists link on the right of the screen. On the mobile web it looks like three lines with dots next to them.

@feditips Trying to actively find the answer myself, I found that clicking on the name of the group in the Home feed does take me to where I can add the group to a list, but it doesn't work from the following list in the profile. The way to hide the list from the Home feed is also different to that page based on my experience using the web interface just now.

If there's some kind of abuse or other rule-breaking going on, you can ask your admin to block the people doing it from your server.
(This is different to the block that individuals can do, admins can do special more powerful blocks.)

@feditips Since the creators of Metatext haven’t been able to update their app, I’ve been wondering about alternative Mastodon clients. I’m looking for access to Explore, hashtags, Local timeline, ability to turn off notifications for polls and edited toots, and ability to block instances. Metatext offered most of these, except for notifications and access to Explore.

@feditips Thinking about it, it is probably where you were describing. I was actually picturing something attached to the right side of my screen area though. The actual column is way off the right side, so it didn't feel like that was where you meant. And, of course, it won't be there either if you have done any exploring, editing profile or other stuff that appears there as well.

Favourites just let the author know you liked their post, that's all.
Boosts share the post with your followers and nudge the post higher on the trending posts list.

@feditips hello! what’s the deal with favourites? people say they’re the same as ‘likes’ but all the posts I’m seeing have zero favourites while having a lot of boosts.
do favourited posts show up on your profile page for others to see as a list, or are they just visible on each individual post?

It's a bit hard for me to test this as I don't use requests, but can you see any ✔️ or ❌ icons on the person's profile page?
That's how the web interface does it, maybe the official app is similar?
By the way, you don't have to use the official app. There are lots of good third party apps and they tend to be better than the official app. (For example Tusky, Fedilab, Tooot on Android, Ice Cubes, Toot!, Mona, Ivory on iPhone/iPad.)

@feditips 👋 I get follow requests in notifications on the app. When I click on the request it takes me to the person not the request, so unable to accept request. I have checked settings etc but cannot find a way to accept requests. Before I updated the app it was easier!

It's because the timeline on here is chronological, there's no algorithm.
Most people don't go through every post in their timeline, so they're only likely to see posts that were published when they were awake.
if you want to reach people in other timezones, you can boost your own post at a different time of day/night.
