I see the frequent references to Apple Music on my music app as a threat, not an opportunity. We’ve already phased out CDs and gone back to big bulky vinyl records for physical media, limiting what can be played in my vehicle. Facebook frequently offered Messenger as an alternative to onsite DMs and chat before forcing it on all users in 2014.

I’ve been an iTunes user for 15 years, and I grew up on CDs. Apple had better not take away my iTunes. I will be enraged.

@feditips Since the creators of Metatext haven’t been able to update their app, I’ve been wondering about alternative Mastodon clients. I’m looking for access to Explore, hashtags, Local timeline, ability to turn off notifications for polls and edited toots, and ability to block instances. Metatext offered most of these, except for notifications and access to Explore.

@syneryder It’s gone for me, too, along with trending hashtags. (We’re both on the same instance)

@eris When I was new to Fedi and didn’t know anything, I just thought “oh, a place to share my art!”. But then I looked at how extensive and detailed the rules were, and was grateful I hadn’t chosen to join the instance. I wouldn’t have lasted long as an autistic person. I’d already been driven off Discord by abusive admins by then. Then I saw Winter trying to start fresh with a new instance only to immediately get stomped, and that soiled it. I’ve now defederated from .art.

@eris Also, that brush rinsing medium is volatile and evaporates quickly, so be sure to keep a lid on it when you’re not using it.

@eris Oils are the opposite of acrylics- they take forever to dry 🥴 I haven’t mastered “wet-on-wet” painting- apparently you can do that. When I try, the wet paint underneath just eats any fine details I try to apply on top. So any work in progress will have a lot of drying time involved.

Also, there’s lots of chemicals involved- turpentine/turpenoid to rinse your brushes. I recommend working in a well-ventilated area because your workspace will probably stink.

@eris me 🎀 it’s much easier to blend than acrylic, which practically dries instantly. I have a few commissions underway at the moment, and they’re all cats 😸
