Sometimes this might be useful, but there is no way it can tell if it's answer is at all correct.

When a rich person buys an asset without a loan they are just rearranging their balance sheet, not juggling their lifestyle. And yet that rearrangement winds up with them having the rents they can charge for the use of that asset.
For me that's the line: do you get to rearrange your balance sheet to extract rents at no cost or risk to your ability to have all your needs met.

@graydon @scottsantens UBI is a natural partner to Modern Monetary Theory. Use tax policy to control inflation and flatten wealth, while using UBI as an effective negative tax.

UBI is essential as a means to value *people* as the climate catastrophe worsens and extreme actions - shutting down oil, de-growth - must be undertaken.
UBI gives our governments a tool to divert wealth from the hoarders and place it where all people can benefit, survive, and thrive.
