#askFedi time. The kind folk who added me to their family Duolingo plan are rightly pissed off with how awful it’s got and do not intend renewing. So time to find an alternative.

I’m doing German and Japanese right now, and I use Duolingo to give me some daily exposure to the languages. I absolutely cannot do self-directed study from books or websites. I kind of need the gamification. Also, ads cause me to forget whatever it was I just did, so affordable ad-free is a must.

Loud, shrieking, amateur drinkers have left the pub of their own accord. One of our group held open the door to hasten their exit.

Remember folks - a pub is for life, not just Xmas.

A question for the Fediverse: I’m learning some basic Italian ahead of my next Interrail trip. Now Duolingo charges extra for explanations and then makes shit up with AI. @Uilebheist has been very helpful, but it’s unfair to bombard them with questions. So, I need a book containing the explanations. If it were German, the book I am looking for would almost certainly be published by Langenscheidt.

Anyone who is learning Italian, or teaches it - any suggestions?
