British railway stations have signs indicating where drivers should stop their train. They usually have a number indicating the number of carriages. Some of them are for specific types of train. The one for the Caledonian Sleeper always makes me smile.

There is a huge gap in the trains in the other direction. Which will be my direction soon enough.

Hammerstein is not an industrial band, but a mostly residential area with houses from Fachwerk to not-yet-finished.

Sonnborner Straße station building is pretty much identical to Hammerstein. The houses are older, and there’s diverse retail at ground level.

Zoo/Stadion is where you get off if you want to see the mighty S.V. Wuppertal. It’s also where the line curves to go over the river instead of the street, and where the railway crosses over.

The other exciting thing here is trolley buses. I haven’t got a decent photo though. So let’s go to the next station.Vohwinkel - tick!

We start in the section over the road. Bruch has some lovely Art Nouveau houses and a couple of supermarkets.

Köln Hauptbahnhof is quite pretty at too-damn-early o’clock.
