I don't think for-profit corporations should do market research on Fedi without compensating the respondents, but I'm also kind of a weirdo and currently feeling like a grump, so maybe I'll regret this reply later.

A big #Mastodon problem is that things appear broken and we're told "it's by design" and then later things appear broken and we're told "it's because decentralized" and then later things appear broken and we're told "it's an outage or DDOS" and then later things appear broken and we're told "it's folks got defederated by a rogue admin during some drama" and then later things appear broken because they are.

It is a fucked system and impressively it's better than the alternatives in many ways.

Reading that #Mozilla funded (i.e. went to the VC teat) for AI was basically the final nail in the Mozilla coffin for me.

Don't forget:

- #Mozilla as an org exists to keep government regulators from enacting more consumer protections on the tech industry.

- #Mozilla internally covered for an openly homophobic leader that they then promoted to CEO only to oust him after the backlash. He's the Brave Browser CEO now

- #Mozilla is now respectability washing #AI

Hey @aral, may I #LazyWeb you directly? You wrote extensively about #Google providing a cash lifeline to Mozilla. It reminds me of how I've come to see that time Microsoft bailed out Apple in an unsucessful attempt to blunt DOJ antitrust scrutiny.

The criticism about my country's cultural hegemony is valid. But it feels like you're saying the EU's hands are clean on the racism and white supremacy front, which I'm sure isn't what you mean.
