@ntnsndr@matrix It's at the top of my "things to try self-hosting" list.
Not to chat with you though ;-)
I just want a little unfederated instance which:
- we can use with the kids instead of whatever random chat app they have right now (no phone numbers, so no Signal) - I can bridge with my WhatsApp so I can try daily-driving my Pinephone and park the Android in a drawer. And no, I'm not trying to strongarm my local, non-techie home-ed parent community off WhatsApp. At least not right now.
⚠️ …most of the ambient encounters and proseletyzing for it have come from unrepetant techbros, problematic TESCREAL types, and cryptocurrency folks
⚠️ …it seems to have bubbled out of the "Web3" cauldron; I've never seen the founders disavow or create distance
⚠️ …I cannot look past the hubris of a white guy founder squatting on the Matrix name, especially in the context of "redpill" appropriation that was already a thing 😒
@toolbear I honestly have never seen any Web3 use of it; Web3 tends to inhabit X/Discord/Telegram in my experience. Matrix tends to be more DWeb people from what I can tell.
@ntnsndr On your website you shouldn't link to whatever the address bar says when using Element (or other clients). If you want to link a room, set a published address in room settings first, then right click the room and "copy room link." If you want to link to a profile, you can use matrix.to, eg. https://matrix.to/#/@ntnsndr:matrix.org .
