@get @anemone @mischievoustomato To be precise, it was initially developed by an Israeli company before being transitioned to a (suspiciously well-funded) non-profit. Additionally, joining shit often requires going through some dumb matrix.to link in my experience and the protocol had some metadata leak problems especially with it all going to matrix.org's servers. @sapphire actually blackholed that domain on his Matrix for that reason IIRC.

How do you go about sharing a link to a #Fediverse post outside of the Fediverse ? Whoever receives the URL might want to interact with it, but how can you make it easy for them to interact ? I'm thinking something like matrix.to, something that might remember you from last time and automatically direct you to your client of choice... is there any such thing for the Fediverse ?

@element (and SchildiChat) clients are hardcoded to use matrix.to invitation links, even if room is located on non-matrix.org instance (like pmOS room).

Russian providers blocked matrix.to and all your room links in your "decentralized" messenger are currently dead.

This is NOT how decentralized messengers work.

@ntnsndr On your website you shouldn't link to whatever the address bar says when using Element (or other clients). If you want to link a room, set a published address in room settings first, then right click the room and "copy room link." If you want to link to a profile, you can use matrix.to, eg. https://matrix.to/#/@ntnsndr:matrix.org .
