@thomasfuchs @shafik @glennf So true. Popularizing science journalism is essentially dead, with only a few people doing it for Scientific American or Popular Science.
Science journalism is perhaps one of the hardest types of journalism since you must understand the subject, know how to communicate it to the general public, and do it in an engaging way

@blogdiva Often organizations think that if people write down their knowledge, they can fire people easily. It is impossible to write everything down. This is an insight that philosophers got 100 years ago, but it gets ignored because people in power don't like this answer

@sumisu3 @skinnylatte This is interesting because it may signal that the current business leadership is overcorrecting, seeing internets in 1992 where they aren't. Since 2010 we had had augmented reality, virtual realty, blockchain, and currently AI.
I have a problem thinking of any useful technology created since 2010 that was hyped as the next big thing

@alcinnz I switched to writing on vim because it feels fast. It also doesn't overheat my computer or drains my battery like VS Code did some years ago, or having Word open

Retro computing is alluring because it comes with the technical optimism of the 80 and 90s.
Going back to that technical empowerment, creativity and possibilities of that era is a good thing. We need that in our world

I am watching a tech conference. I noticed how the arguments were fashion-driven. "This tech is the past!" "My tech is the future!" "My tech is inevitable!"
These are fashion arguments, something you say about clothes. "You don't want to look ridiculous, do you?" "That is so 2001!" "This is what will be hot with cool people this summer!"
No business arguments. No engineering arguments. Their main point is being cool with your peers.

@chris__martin that is the popular plot right now. Because it is wish fulfillment during times of deep feelings of powerlessness.
Older novels have plots where people have to deal with things outside of their control. Moby Dick is a good example
