women and veterans.

Only 42% of women and 40% of veterans voted against Trump in the last two elections.

It's a mistake to assume that fascism is unpopular. The righteousness of anti-fascism is not going to win the day .

Fascism has to defeated, periodically.

And it evolves. Slightly less than half of Americans support fascism.

Which is a lot more than Germans supporting fascism in the early 1930s.

Unlike in 2016, when "respected" conservatives distanced themselves from Trumpism, today, most have embraced it.

More in Congress support it.

More in tech support it.

More journos are sympathetic to the cause.

There are cable news networks right of Fox.

The country is ripe for a fascist takeover.

Either the mods on my instance have done a bang-up job, or my experience here is far too limited to have even gotten a whiff of this. I *might* have encountered one possible Nazi in the last several months.

Mass shootings are bad. 40 million have lived within a mile of one. Virtually no one was cheering James T. Hodgkinson for starting one. Enough were just disappointed that Scalise lived.

It'll take huge efforts to persuade a very large number of people who seem happy with what the techno-fascists offer.

FOSS alone won't cut it, because the same techno-fascists end up funding, and eventually owning the reins.

Then making cost-of-entry prohibitive.

We can have niche platforms (like Mastodon) where once critical mass is reached (25M users), it will sustain itself.

Persuading a center-right population is a tough ask. That's where we need success.

A sense of proportion.

Assume that your premise is indeed true. That there is a subset of transgender women harassing lesbian women.

How big is the transgender demographic anyway? Then, how small is this subset within it?

An article like the one cited is one-sided. It derives its conclusions from an unknown-sized sample set and does not have any verification of the allegations.

So you have some uncorroborated one-sided anecdotes, accusing a much-vilified group of impropriety.

It is a massively disproportionate focus.

Imagine if you will hearing about the atrocities committed in the klan-dominated areas of the New South. Crimes are committed against Blacks every day.

Then you hear about some folks in the local diner talking about that one time a Black patron shouted obscenities at a white waitress and left without paying.

The instances that rigorously will moderate out these unmoderated or poorly instances?

At the same time, there is a camp that advocates defederating larger instances to encourage better median instances.

Maybe aggregating moderation is the next big thing.

I picked the mothership because it seems to have fine moderation for the things reported.
