The horses are out in the front yard. The elk calf is still laying down in the west field, isolated and safe. Mama elk is out of view, but we trust she'll be back. Birds are singing, near and far. A few dogs are conversing on the wind. Crickets are chirping. Across the road and behind our northern neighbor's property, I see someone puttering around their yard. An airplane is slowly transiting overhead. Some vehicle slowly rolls down the chip and sealed road off in the distance. A lawn mower starts up - a ride on. The eastern neighbor's rooster crows. Mum gets fed up with the maps and goes to make lunch. A goose honks. Then another. A second rooster, further away, crows
