@benjojo @asl Genuine question: Would you feel safe using Mikrotik switches without doing anything too fancy? VLANs but no routing. I’ve been avoiding them for years out of fear, but I really want to go faster and use less power.

@thomasfuchs Fiber is cheaper and uses less energy. Do twisted pair SFP28 modules exist? I haven’t ever seen one, and my first page of search results was not encouraging. I imagine they'd be very expensive, whereas optics are simple and cheap.

@thomasfuchs Macs are superior Linux machines. I just bought an Apple Silicon Mini and put Debian on it.
