Depends, I'm already close by and I could motivate one more (ping @ericj). My wife owes me several days of 100% parenting :blobcatjustright:
Everything between Vasa and Helsingfors is doable.

@evan This isn't a call for help, right?
@aral Seeing as you are mentioning tabs and spaces, I have a question you might be well placed to answer: do you know which is best from an accessibility pov? (I was planning on web searching this). I have a personal preferences for spaces, but I am willing to change my ways.
@derek Yea that was a fun mechanic. Is Kiith Somtaaw referenced in H3?
@derek I can relate! The voice is the Gardens of Kadesh is something I'll never forget. Did you play Homewprld Cataclysm? That storyline was positively spooky :blobcat_clothghost:
@derek Where does it stand between H1 and 2? I enjoyed both, but 1 was always better for me. 2 felt a bit "streamlined" and rushed in the end.
@aral FWIW, you had a point.
@aral Hope you _at least_ had some fun! :blobcathearthug: Swift recovery!
This was a fantastic article a deserves several re-reads!

I'm trying to push my reading skills to the next level by actually engaging with a book. Read the cover and insides. About the authors. Carefully scanned the table of contents. Scanned the index. Tried to figure out what question the authors were trying to answer. Started reading the conclusion first while annotating the book and taking notes with pencil and paper.
Don't know if it is the method that is fruitful, or the book is that good: finished the conclusion and my notes are already looking like the ravings of a madman, and I need a break to let all the ideas settle a bit before starting the first chapter.
I love it.
What kind of union: once you are unionized, what kind of union is it? A giant org you pay your due to but you rarely or never meet. You just call them when you need them and a paid professional helps you out.
Or is it a more grassroots one? And if so, how active is it? Is the new member willing to volunteer some time or really just show up at the annual GA or the holiday parties? Is the workload of the active members sustainable?

My layman's conclusion: the more individualistic the society, the less likely it is for unions to form and thrive. The hurdles are too "unnatural" to clear.

EU and unions and tech: my own experience from France and Sweden is that politically conscious workers are unionized and open about it. Often in non-siloed unions (worker solidarity). In Sweden many are less politicized but still see the point of unionizing, and go the "guild" way or "academics only" and are not as open about it.
And there's the last group that don't believe they need to or even can unionize.

USA and tech and unions: so it's easy to see why it's really, really not a given. I keep seeing stories on my timeline of horrible employer to employee abuse, and I keep thinking "that's the point where I contact my local union bureau" while reading those stories, like at several steps, often by the first sentence. But the stories never lead there. Instead it goes to legal counsel. Which is supposed to be provided free of charge by union membership.

Tech and unions: I don't have much more than intuitions and feelings here to go on, but my observations is that tech jobs developed in an era of rising neo-liberalism and diminishing union memberships, in a workplace where direct day-to-day on-the-floor cooperation is not obvious, sometimes resented. The job attracts individualists who seek less interactions with other people.

@pettter Oh hey, I have thoughts and observations on this topic, as a unionized tech worker (was in France, is in Sweden).
USA and unions: you want to try your luck with the word "guild". Unionizing seems to be very siloed per profession, so the word "union" itself might not appear at first glance. I feel that anti-union discourse is so prevalent that unless you come into a profession that has already successfully fought those battles, it's a hard one to start.
