What kind of union: once you are unionized, what kind of union is it? A giant org you pay your due to but you rarely or never meet. You just call them when you need them and a paid professional helps you out.

Or is it a more grassroots one? And if so, how active is it? Is the new member willing to volunteer some time or really just show up at the annual GA or the holiday parties? Is the workload of the active members sustainable?
