The reason Russia created 50,000 accounts is to take advantage of naive policies around delegation of moderation.

For example, inexperienced and/or overworked moderators can prompted to take action based on "wisdom of the crowd" or "popular consent" when the attackers control enough accounts.

Please don't create more opportunities for these attacks with any quick fixes that just came to mind.

This is either a very common propaganda technique or a misunderstanding a lot of people have.

The point of end-to-end encryption is not having to trust the node/server/admin/nation that your encrypted data passes through!

Not knowing who's behind the node or where it is, or even which node is going to be used, actually makes it harder to collect all of your metadata and encrypted messages.

As to the funding, it's not what matters, the control does, and that rests with the users.

I've noticed Fedilab being very aggressive about including hashtags in my replies lately. Even after I deleted the included tags it inserted them in the post. I even saw them added when editing the reply to remove them.

It didn't used to do this. For now I turned the setting off.
