@akkartik Dynamicland is a train, and neither a car nor a bicycle. It's an alternate idea of what a computer is that steps away from our current notion of a computer as a product for individual use.
@akkartik I think this is only true if you narrowly are only looking at privatized space. If we're going to be more efficient, we're going to need to start building more shared community spaces (like libraries!) instead of atomizing everything into bedrooms and cubicles
@akkartik a couple other things too - I think the biggest thing for me is the fully transparent rapidly-modifiable components with dynamic interop (like the unix dream that so rarely gets realized)
@neauoire to each their own, but I’d recommend really sitting with the computing concepts behind realtalk before throwing it out just bc of the projector/camera thing dynamicland depends on. There’s a lot to learn there for everyone
the concept of being an "artist" as job is a psyop to satiate people who want to bring something beautiful & good the world by offering them a meager living, to ensure that they produce commodities instead of anything that might shake the foundations of the machine. see also: parenthood, nonprofits.
@mcc the general vibe with learning japanese is, the things that are usually hard about a language (grammar, conjugation, vocab) are easy and the things that are normally easy are hard (learning the alphabet, counting)
@violetmadder every single person in the auditorium except the speakers were wearing masks, and the speakers took tests just before going on state. Ed Yong just called out that it felt weird to not wear a mask for this particular talk
