@clacke I remember an unplanned overnight in Guangzhou because you can't stay in the airport. We got a taxi bus to a random hotel and abandoned.
Then in the morning we got a bun chucked at us for breakfast.
The mattress was hard....

@Infoseepage it's a 404.
So the protest is being repurposed as an informal gathering.
Well depending on who attends, there could be a more boring conversation about FOSDEM governance.

So the thing to note about Tiananmen square outputs is bias.
Our datasets have bias. The way we program has the bias of our backgrounds and politics.
It's why the OSI open AI definition isn't worth the paper it's written on.
You need to examine what data it's been trained on.
But well done Guardian news doing a video comparison of deepseek, ChatGPT and Gemini. *Slow clap*
I'll await more breathless reporting from you, as you fail to examine deeper.
"Multiple sources in the prosecutor’s office said Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform is critical to its operations and suspending access would paralyse its investigations. “We essentially store all of our evidence in the cloud,” one said."
😱
Hi Fediverse, long-term denizens and new arrivals.
I'm Esther and I post a bit about tech, privacy and how stories can help us to help others to understand the dangers to our #privacy by mass data collection.
I toot at times about #RFC1984, this RFC is still pretty relevant to the now with attempts to undermine #E2E by legislatures..
https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc1984
Because of the work I do with @librecast , there's also mentions of multicast. you've been warned.
I'm still stunned by the ICC having their evidence on Azure.
Public bodies need to have their own infrastructure. Especially when their storage is somewhere that serves shareholders and the country where they are incorporated.
Kinda hope the UN is on independent infrastructure.
@Codeberg @ntnsndr wrote a book recently about this topic.
https://nathanschneider.info/books/governable-spaces/
I'm finishing up reading it now. It's very readable. I found myself going "yes this" as I was reading the earlier chapters.
There's a free electronic copy folks can read.
When I was a child, I remember my grandmothers attitude to an unfair situation.
"It is what it is".
That doesn't mean we accept the world the way it is. We endure.
We have little choice. But we still have hope. We can still make ripples within the world.
Even small ripples can make a difference to someone.
Mirror mirror on the wall, who's the fairest community of them all?
Here's a follow up from Drew De Vault
"I would like to emphasize that we are not protesting FOSDEM or its organizers. We are protesting Jack Dorsey and his company, first and foremost, from promoting their business at FOSDEM. "

I've got a two-parter blog post about community coming up.
With FOSDEM and some difficultes that some folks I know have in tech with understanding why fostering community means inclusion, I've been heartened by @anna and @glyph posts on the recent controversy.
Here is @anna Anna's thread about #FOSDEM and their experience of navigating it. There is a bigger question we all need to ask ourselves about inclusion and why so many in the tech community don't like it when the mirror of their poor record on inclusion is held up to techbros faces.
@glyph thread https://mastodon.social/@glyph/113845113924909900 in FOSDEM covers this difficulty in our communities as well.
@garrett points about the ways FOSDEM is surprisingly inaccessible to possibly 30 percent of the population is interesting too.
As are the points about how FOSDEM has been disappointing on a number of fronts for years.
Can someone link me to the pretalx leak on the FOSDEM dorsey talk please?
Need it for a thing
@MediaActivist talk to @ntnsndr about May 1st and read Governable spaces.
@pfm That is a very relevant one.
I'll need to catch up on it once it's been recorded.
Sustainability and funding has been very much on folks minds. It's one of the main themes for #OFFDEM this year.
But I'm sure @how is happy to expand.
https://ps.s10y.eu/@how/113839956347315500
@pfm @how you didn't see the earlier post, it's not stupid at all.
Plus it's good to let other folks know about OFFDEM and to have a conversation about it.
We all need to talk about it more and this gives us the opportunity to let each other know we're here.
I discovered when I graduated from Computer Science I prefer people to programming. I do stuff with @librecast a #HumanRights project masquerading as a FOSS project.
