@steter Good point. Black folks did that in spite of *wide hand gesture* and maybe the rest of the country can sit back down too.
As a government? They provided the myth that democracy works for the many. Not exactly a triumph.
Traditional shitstorm about #Android device attestation in EU Identity Wallet with Age Verification project:
https://github.com/eu-digital-identity-wallet/av-doc-technical-specification/discussions/19
Previously, I have commented on the project stating that it’s neither right nor necessary to rely on a single commercial proprietary function (Google Play) for the device attestation and I hold this.
But in this thread there’s plenty of voices who contest the whole idea of attestation, the argument boiling down to “I own my device and nobody’s going to tell me what to do!!!” which is just as naive as incorrect:
In other words, freedom to tinker - which I generally agree with - ends where other humans are expected to interact and potentially bear consequences of your tinkering.
@garrett points about the ways FOSDEM is surprisingly inaccessible to possibly 30 percent of the population is interesting too.
As are the points about how FOSDEM has been disappointing on a number of fronts for years.
@bumi @SUp3rN0va regarding the federated Twitter work, I interviewed a person who had worked there at the time, and it was a real thing, published here in Polish:

As far as Dorsey killing it, that's coming from people I know and trust who are in a position to know about this. There are probably other sources online, too.
As far as Jack's "decentralization" shtick, I mentioned this in my blog post about BlueSky's faux-decentralization:

@freemo All good. Really. People get all this from paid services too.
As for pure-practicalities of moving I would have moved this year if it wasn't for Mastodon not able to move posts and so believe me I thought about it and posted about it and waited for search to do more about it and that just made it that bit harder to find even what I was looking for....
So not deliberate lock in but Mastodon's lack of real offline view and deleting account = deleting posts, does feel like a lock in for sure.
Let's just see how it goes for now...
The Fediverse suffers from fragmentation too.
As I said, earlier, switching between Fedi instances is not without its risk. Much of it person between Fedi instances (usually drama related).
It is also the software platforms too. Although they're all using Activity Pub (ActivityPub), some of the API's process and prioritize content differently.
I can follow the same people on Mastodon and Misskey and end up with 2 different timelines.
