@jan I figured it probably was but I don't actually follow any Threads users at this point. So if they're not Threads posts/replies I'd be interested to know exactly what they're POSTing at me.

@jan I think, funnily enough, that this is Facebook following ActivityPub more closely than Mastodon - specifically the parts around Inbox Forwarding, which Mastodon doesn't do.

It's the reason people invent things like #FediFetcher

@BeAware Potentially, given the vagaries of ActivityPub, that could be the case.

That said, all the relays I have setup report their own useragents, for example:

As I scroll through my feed seeing the same old faces (love y'all) I've come to the realisation that my subscribed hashtags are doing very little.

Guess that's a "running my own" instance thing. 😢

I've got relays, but those seem to be mostly made up of other small instances. relay.fedi.buzz could have helped but doesn't seem to add anything new.

#Discoverability seems hard work if you're not on a big instance. My posts feed up, others don't feed down all that much.

I run a single user #Mastodon server.

Dealing with this annoying AF #spam *the right way* is killing me.

I have to report the post, select spam. Select (one at a time) each of the 30 other identical posts and then submit and block.

Then I have to navigate to moderation and suspend that account. In itself a 10 - 20 second multi click operation.

I'm getting new spam users at least once every 20 minutes.

I'm begining to wonder if it's just a bug. Is that stat showing all users an instance is aware of, as opposed to actual local ones?

@stemy @feditips @ernest Not normally. That was temporally implemented a few hours back to mitigate what looked like a DDoS.

In retrospect it may have just been the HN/Digg/Slashdot/Reddit effect but until that eases of it is making the site usable.
