@feld I have this same gift, except I have never known for sure whether it is a real thing or if the reason it works is because what I would consider “a disgusting amount of carbs” is what others might consider a light snack 🤔
Like I think maybe I just don’t eat a lot, but I wonder if the amount that other people eat is just literally incomprehensible to me and this is why I don’t realize it if that makes sense lol
@feld@sun has this ever been used or supported by anything?
Maybe this has changed by now, but a very long time ago I was looking into creating a CA with Name Constraints for opennic.org domains, and at the time virtually no browsers or SSL implementations recognized Name Constraints at all 😔
@feld I do suspect I could challenge them and win, but it is not worth the time over $80 so I let them go. Probably would be worth it for thousands of $$
Even in that best case scenario it would still be a gigantic waste of the instance owner’s time to challenge them all, and screw up their payment network reputation which is based on amount of disputes received regardless (!) of outcome.
It's very annoying that someone can donate a few bucks to my Mastodon instance, and then file a credit card dispute with a $16 (!) fee attached a few months later. It's even more annoying when they do it 5 different times.
If you need your pocket change back so badly just tell me and I'll send it back. What is the purpose of charging me $80 to return like... $20 total? 😬
I've now been using @zenbrowser near-exclusively for the past few weeks, and I've gotta say my support for their Patreon since last October was *well* justified, because it is already the best browser I've ever used 🤩
@feld lol I was just looking for what I had posted about DC to remember why I was so annoyed with it last year, and I just saw your reply.
I am probably still annoyed with how easy it is to shoot yourself in the foot if you use your existing email provider, like I imagine many people would like to do, (and which is why I was happy when Signal removed SMS support) but I'll check it out again with Chatmail this time 👀
I was feeling inspired to write this morning after looking through a lot of this type of article and noticing they all omitted kind of important information. This includes all of the basics, and the stuff I thought was under-discussed, for example: AirDrop's privacy problems, and the importance of security patches in this specific scenario.
I hope someone finds this useful, and if I'm still missing anything or could explain something better, please let me know!
This is not a win for privacy, this is a massive loss for all Americans as the country descends into the internet censorship that has plagued so many of the other unfree countries around the world.
It isn't the time to act smug or superior just because that censorship happened to target an app you disliked today. They will have no problems coming for the services you do like tomorrow.
