@feld @mint I feel like the community would pretty quickly rediscover how bittorrent works, even M$ basically does it with updates these days.
I'm also in the Mozilla should just disappear at this point camp tbh

What's the deal with #Mastodon's SEO? I don't think I've ever seen a Mastodon profile or post in search results unless I go to like, page 3. Meanwhile I'm wading through all sorts of nonsense from Twitter/LinkedIn/etc.
Websites should start pushing people to install Firefox again, like they did back in the day
@BeAware surely not more than just uploading images to a post…
Will #Mastodon add the ability for individual users to upload emojis to their account, now that Genmoji exists? Seems like there will be a lot more demand for custom emojis in the future 🤔
@feld only probably?
Apple is really coming after Google with this standby feature, I wonder if this is coming to docked iPads as well...
Literally so bored with this so far lol
Lock screen customizations now coming to iPadOS is just further proof that the only reason iPadOS isn't iOS is to give them an excuse to release features 1-2 years later.
"iPad is the best device for PDFs"??? 🤣
"We truly live in an age of wonders" 🙏

#ProtonMail just launched their family plan, 6 people, 3TB storage (shared), and no custom domain required (new)! Seems to be essentially the same as old Visionary, which is probably why they upped Visionary to 6TB recently... Check it out: https://proton.me/blog/proton-family-plan
@1password so... how do I add another Passkey to my account? 👀
@mastohost wouldn't that be 24 sidekiq threads or do I not understand your pricing?
@aral
My "position" on #Wildebeest — and really all #ActivityPub software — is as follows: If it lets you migrate your followers in and out, sure, give it a try; If it does not, you should be VERY wary of using it for your important accounts.
Wildebeest does not let you transfer your followers to/from it, ergo it should not be used, lest you find yourself locked-in to Cloudflare's ecosystem forever. Whether or not you like #Cloudflare is irrelevant, you should not tie your fediverse identity to any company permanently.
It's very frustrating for me to see even large ActivityPub implementations that have been around forever not implement follower migrations. Even #Pixelfed doesn't (although I hear that may be coming this year). Anyways... I asked them if they might implement it, but I don't exactly have my hopes up. https://github.com/cloudflare/wildebeest/issues/238
@murat IMHO merely "owning" your data in a managed SaaS database is not enough, especially because there is nothing you can do with that data at the moment if you want to leave. It may solve GDPR-type questions about personal data ownership, but practically speaking you're still totally locked-in.
That being said, they did say they plan to support migrations in a reply to my GitHub issue, which is great. I still wouldn't use #Wildebeest until they actually do of course, but it's a good sign!
@feld that's true, although in this case you'd be your own admin. I do kind of wish Mastodon still allowed suspended users to migrate their followers within the 30 days before the account is automatically deleted. I'm sure that would create moderation problems, but it doesn't really seem fair that someone can easily be suspended on one server and lose their entire following for something that is probably totally acceptable on plenty of other servers.
