I’m hearing murmurs of YouTube blocking browsers that support ad blockers.
You know where you don’t have to worry about such things? Host your videos on a #PeerTube instance and use #Owncast for your live video streaming needs.
@queenslight For whatever reason I'm unable to respond directly to ke7zum from fosstodon.org. But if she sees this, I tested the slider she had concerns with in the upcoming release of Owncast and it looks to be functioning as expected. Please do test it when the release comes out and file any bugs that are run into!
@darnell@fediversereport@gabek It doesn't need to be costly or complex. One of Owncast's primary goals is to demystify running your own live streams. The centralized services want you to think they're they only options, and unfortunately most people believe them.
Have you had a chance to listen to the @linuxlads episode about #Owncast? Gabe sat down with the lads last month and had a fantastic discussion, discussing Owncast in depth. https://linuxlads.com/episodes/98/
@jimcarroll@fringe There's nothing additional you have to do. As long as the interface you use supports it, it'll show up inline. Seems to be working fine!
@vencabot This is specifically for the "Action buttons" row, and you can already add custom buttons, like one that pops up your blog, for example. There's some additional detail here: https://owncast.online/thirdparty/actions/
Coming up in #Owncast v0.1.0 is an additional way for you to create custom action buttons for your interface. You could always point to remote resources as actions, but now you can just author them from scratch in HTML!
One fewer step required for you to build your own custom UI for tip jars, leader boards, 3rd party integrations or whatever you can think of. It's your server, go nuts.
@fringe@jimcarroll It has to do more with how you're viewing a post than Owncast itself. Owncast does support inline playback if the interface supports it. For example if you open this post on Mastodon you'll see a stream inline.
Are you a #PenPot user? The #Owncast project is looking to get up and running to prepare for designing future feature development.
The first step is to mock the current UI in PenPot using the best practices of the tool, and set the project up for success to use it to into the future.
It's a great opportunity for somebody who wants to help in a non-technical capacity and share your tooling experience, or dip your toe into the project! Drop by this issue and say hi!
@Darkasvim Many people host Owncast instances on very low priced hosting services. Some run them from home. Your requirements and hosting environment determine how much your paying your hosting provider, however, so an actual number can't be answered for you. This document may be helpful, however: https://owncast.online/docs/resources-requirements/
Owncast is a free and open source live video and chat server for your events. Stream your entertainment, education, tv station, performances, games, communities, conferences, or whatever you have to share with an audience without big tech.
