@vertigo That's not something that's been reported previously nor something I can reproduce. Could you provide any details? Anything in your browser console of interest?
@fediforum demo of owncast! Says Gabe Kangas, "As with any other curl-to-bash install, make sure to check your shell scripts, because, hey, you don't know me!" Too true.
Has anyone written a good checker for install scripts so you could do something like:
Had a great time demoing #Owncast and learning about people's passions at Day 1 of #FediForum. If anybody has any questions after the demo, please say hi! Looking forward to Day 2 of @fediforum!
Did you know an #Owncast video stream uses a standard protocol that can be viewed in any video player? This includes your TV or set top box, so you can watch on a bigger screen! Check out some of the options at https://owncast.online/docs/watching-on-tvs/
@trent The resources required for running an Owncast server depend on how you configure it and what your requirements are. Some people run it on a Raspberry Pi or a $5 VPS. But some people put more resources behind their instance. It's really up to you.
If you know of any #Fediverse related events (conferences, networking, demo opportunities) that would be a good fit please reach out and let us know. Even if you think we already know about them, it's likely we don't!
Going forward I want Owncast to be a larger part of the greater community, but I've been very disconnected from it, so I could use your help.
A huge thank you to everyone who has financially donated to Owncast. Your contributions allowed the project to invest in a brand new explainer video to use when talking about the project.
These kind of non-technical initiatives are important for Owncast, and I hope we can find more ways to create content that can be used in different contexts to share the project with others.
It's been fantastic meeting new people and engaging with those looking to make small, but mighty contributions to #Owncast during the first few days of #Hacktoberfest. I'd love if you could join us!
This year it's not just about code contributions, either. Creative work, design feedback, tutorials, videos, etc are all fantastic ways to help the project.
A huge, huge thank you to @jych for reaching out and jumping in to see how he can help #owncast! He already has a PR in and has given feedback about a handful of items.
As mentioned in the recent Owncast video, the project is rewriting the web interface and would love your help. If you have frontend web development experience (We're using React), or want to gain experience, now is a good time to get involved. You can have your ideas, opinions and work in the next major revamp of Owncast. Topics that are being worked on right now: Mobile support, accessibility, chat design. I've heard people criticize all these things, so now is your chance to make it better.
Owncast is a free and open source live video and chat server for your events. Stream your entertainment, education, tv station, performances, games, communities, conferences, or whatever you have to share with an audience without big tech.
