@Fragglemuppet many organisations re-sell used laptops, many of which have had a very easy life with field salesforces etc.
Presumably previous models will be AI-free

There’s a loupin-on stane at Duddingston Kirk in Edinburgh. Also rings in the wall but they could be for recalcitrant humans!

I’m sure there used to be a hitching post at Tollcross in Edinburgh.

@javi one of the better consequences of the fiasco in Iran and the surrounding area is it has exploded the myth that the USA is “protecting Europe” with its bases. It never was. Europe defends Europe and the USA only has bases here to extend its influence further East.

What a brilliant way to promote modal shift! Build a bridge that cars can’t use, and everybody crosses it by bicycle…..

@ChrisMayLA6 it’s not whether people get poorer or not. It’s whether the tabloid press will believe it.

Because if they don’t believe it, they will crucify the party that promotes it

@ChrisMayLA6 Nicola Sturgeon did the same but she was not praised in the press for doing so.
Very few people want to vote for somebody who might make them poorer. Even if they do make them feel better about being poor!

@ChrisMayLA6 @gemlog @ShredderLivesOn Some fairly dubious organisations seem to have achieved Bcorp status.
Personally I am a fan of community enterprise. There are various trading models available from cooperatives to community benefit societies
But what they all have in common is that they are free of the stock market. They can’t be bought or sold by millionaires to other millionaires.

@gemlog @ShredderLivesOn @ChrisMayLA6 limited liability is not just a feature of commerce. Most charities have limited liability, because it doesn’t seem fair to expose trustees to bankruptcy just to operate a charity.

I suppose it would be feasible to remove the limited liability and cover it with insurance? Would that address your worries?

Of course by doing that, you are creating increased dependency on private insurance companies!

@gemlog @ShredderLivesOn @ChrisMayLA6 “We were doing business just fine before that moment in history. People may still combine their funds for larger enterprises.”
That is actually capitalism. But it needs to be controlled and regulated to work.

Think Scandinavia. A strong capitalist economy with an equally strong social countries and comprehensive welfare state.

@gemlog I was in Japan before the days of smart photos and with no practical knowledge of the language you are functionally illiterate because you couldn’t even use a dictionary as the letters are so different.
More than 20 years later, I understand English is much more prevalent and of course you can waft your phone at the text and it will tell you what it says!

@ianbetteridge @BashStKid What is often forgotten is that before the oil started to flow the British government went cap in hand to the IMF for a bailout.
    The UK was bankrupt.
And as we see oil diminishing both in supply and demand the economy has not changed significantly, so we can expect the UK to be bankrupt again when the oil and gas is finished.

And that is why they will do everything legal & illegal, moral and immoral to prevent Scotland becoming independent.

@ChrisMayLA6 they have also handed a major gift to Putin by buying his oil as well, which will reinforce his efforts against Ukraine.

So it’s heads they win tails we lose in both Iran and Ukraine thanks to Donald Trump.
With friends like him who needs enemies ?

@phl @dalias @mattblaze good point. But if you’re describing an event the time goes first and then the day then the month then the year. When it all fails of course is when you introduce the seconds elapsed and it goes minutes & seconds

But on mm dd yy the *only* country to use it is the USA.
    Like gallons.

@dalias @mattblaze year month day probably works better for mechanised filing systems.
But for a human being day month year is intuitive.
