@Infoseepage I read just yesterday that Albuquerque in New Mexico recently discovered that administering taking payment on their city buses cost more than just making the buses free. So that's what they did.
Ridership increased by 20%.

@BarneyDellar One of the brilliant things about the Greens and the SNP working together, is that the Greens push for something "extreme", the SNP soften it up a bit and get it passed, and then when the softened version has been around long enough to look normal, people actually start asking for the next step.

Free bus travel is an example of this, as is getting rid of Peak fares. Both have gone in steps.
