It’s nothing to do with that.

It’s to do with the massive backlash they got on Fedi for their CEO being all Trumpy and somewhat horrible right wing.

So they’ve run away because they were made to feel unwelcome on account of us not letting their BS fly.

@davidnjoku every LLM is inherently biased based on both the views of the team behind it and the materials it’s trained on.

How we’re this far down the “AI” conversation with so many people choosing to disregard that is somewhat alarming.

Of course next up is some LLM aggregator that uses its own model to query all the others then patch together a response taking into account all replies.

@bcon @killyourfm if you’re on an ancient paperwhite it’s worth it for your health. No, really. If you read in the evening or at night and use the paperwhite’s light you’re getting blue light which disrupts melatonin which is needed for good sleep. The kobo (and newer Kindles to be fair) can adjust the colour of the light to red orange hues which is far kinder to you eyes and you sleep cycles 😊

@killyourfm I’ve very much enjoyed mine. The Libra design is excellent. I still spit anything I buy from the kobo store through a de-drm plugin, of course, but being able to just chuck whatever else onto it is superb.

I have read a bunch of manga on it, which is decent but my aging Nexus 7 2nd gen pips it for manga / comics really.

The kobo software is much nicer too. I used to hack my kindles but never bothered with the kobo, does all I want it to out the box ^_^

Might end up getting a Kobo Libra Colour as the Libra 2 just isn't available any more.

Does anyone use the Colour & can comment on how the screen is for B&W text (which is what it'll actually be used for) compared to how nice the Libra 2 is?

Think we’re going to get a Kobo Clara Colour in the end. Shame not to have the physical button but for what my wife needs from it we can’t justify the price difference. The Clara Colour hits everything else other than physical buttons though and looks pretty great for the price.

Gone off the Clara again, I think the asymmetric design and physical buttons of the Libra are a must.

So might get the Libra Colour for myself & hand the Libra 2 to my wife 🤔

Quietly hoping for some Boxing Day discounts..

We opted for sharing the Kobo Libra 2 we currently have.

I’ve not laid hands on it since.

I think we are close to justifying picking up a second one haha 😝

Toddler is awake: little else can get done.
Toddler is napping: in a contact-nap-demanding phase, one of us gets little else done.
Toddler is sleeping: we get 1-2 hours before they gently walk into our room and require contact sleeping. Little else gets done.

How the f do #parents get anything done? I guess those with a “village” have half a chance but those of us winging without practical support? Hard work.

I wasn’t suggesting ignoring is a fix, but I *am* suggesting that responding on official political accounts gives weight to Elmo’s comments which is at best unhelpful and at worst dangerous.

@xs4me2 @LillyHerself not “this” unless backed up with data about how these various data centres source their energy.

Many have been and are increasingly using sustainable power, mostly because it’s actually more cost effective most of the time and they can do a little greenwashing as a bonus.

There are a multitude of reasons to dunk on LLMs / AI but power usage isn’t the “gotcha” many think it is.

@LillyHerself @xs4me2 aye, I’m not actually contesting that but it’s conjecture - attack AI with things that OpenAI and their fetid kin can’t hand-wave away. How they power their infra isn’t the route.

There’s been attempts to get new Retro gaming forums going, but ultimately I think they struggle because it’s _another_ login to make & monitor etc..

So I propose this: a #RetroGaming email discussion list!

No new usernames or passwords required, no new places to monitor for goings on, it’s all in what you already have.
