Both Proton & our CEO stand against authoritarianism; check out this article for more info: https://www.compiler.news/proton-vpn-venezuela-russia/
Proton is not controlled by any individual, but by the non-profit Proton Foundation, which is based in Switzerland and politically neutral.
@Infoseepage The foundation has more than 2/3rds.
@Infoseepage The foundation is a non-profit, it doesn't have shareholders, each board member has 1 vote.
The foundation has majority voting power in the company.
@Infoseepage The foundation has super majority.
@Infoseepage Our CEO also stated the above himself: https://x.com/andyyen/status/1864672128580083926
It's also worth noting Proton is controlled by a non-profit foundation based in neutral Switzerland, and not by any specific individuals.
Unlike Big Tech, Proton will not comply with subpoenas from the incoming Trump administration (just like we refused all subpoenas from the Biden administration), as it would be illegal under Article 271 of the Swiss criminal code.
Hey, this is not how the Proton Foundation works.
The foundation is non-profit, and the shares are not owned by individuals. Instead, each foundation member has one vote.

@Infoseepage @molly0xfff As for the '88' in Andy's username: Andy has created this account a week ago and the reason it features 88 in binary is because it’s his birth year and a lucky number in Taiwan, where he is originally from. So, this is a very unfortunate coincidence.
We have apologized and retracted the statement, and changed internal processes to avoid this.
We can assure you that as a Swiss organization, Proton is not controlled by any individual, but by the board of our non-profit foundation, which has neutrality in its governing principles.
@jonah By working on the front lines of many policy issues, we have seen the shift between Dems and Republicans over the past decade first hand.
Dems had a choice between the progressive wing (Bernie Sanders, etc), versus corporate Dems, but in the end money won and constituents lost.
Until corporate Dems are thrown out, the reality is that Republicans remain more likely to tackle Big Tech abuses.

Corporate capture of Dems is real. In 2022, we campaigned extensively in the US for anti-trust legislation.
Two bills were ready, with bipartisan support. Chuck Schumer (who coincidently has two daughters working as big tech lobbyists) refused to bring the bills for a vote.
At a 2024 event covering antitrust remedies, out of all the invited senators, just a single one showed up - JD Vance.
