Was watching the firehose of people posting their "hello worlds" on @PixelFed and noticing how diverse the demographics are. Mainly not white dudes, and seemingly much younger then the average around here. So great if we can attract new people to the #fediverse that are much different then those who use it today.

quick note for fediverse newcomers, the default web interface of mastodon is notoriously not that great and there are way better alternatives like https://phanpy.social and https://elk.zone! just go to either of them, log in with your already existing account and never look back! #FediTips

pretty amazing how many fediverse instances don't exist anymore, I was just looking though some old bug reports where I mentioned logging in with pleroma accounts I used to have and thinking about how active those instances once were and now don't exist.

@jonny pixelfed already has a feature to login with mastodon. You could set that up to only allow a single instance on an allow list being the one on the same server

I wonder if its worth someone setting up a campaign to get Threads to "break off" from Meta over this situation. I don't think that would realistically go anywhere but it might be an interesting PR campaign for the fediverse.

I have a feeling this might signal the end of Threads ActivityPub integration. If a few more large instances defed what point do they have to move forward?
