@GossiTheDog I said net worth, which is not remotely the same as income, and it varies widely depending on where you live.

In the US, for example, you need a household income of over $500k to even make it into the 1%

There is a point of net worth where you are basically decoupled from what is happening in the economy - you no longer have to work & provided you don't do anything really stupid & have a diversified portfolio you will be absolutely fine for the rest of your life.

The amount varies on what kind of lifestyle you want, and where you want to live - but $10M will do it pretty much anywhere. Those are the actual rich.

Am I the only one who thinks its odd that #ai companies all seem to have fired their Ethics / Responsibility folks at the same time - and just as greater scrutiny comes to these technologies?

Probably nothing - just a coincidence that they all decided at the same time to get rid of the people who might ... feel a sense of public duty to whistleblow if they saw evidence of serious wrongdoing.

@aral An older UK person I am close to needs to use a heart monitor. The doctors advised us that the best-available tech is the Apple watch and the ecosystem associated with it.

The alternative, non-BigTech solution was obviously inferior and had a horrible UX that even relatively tech-savvy seniors were clearly going to struggle with.

"Give up your data to BigTech or have worsened healthcare outcomes" is already here - even on what's left of the NHS.
