Slowly concluding that I really am going to have to get a Bluesky account for professional reasons, but I reserve the right to he pissy about it.
How feasible is hosting your own AT protocol data store atm? I've got decent server hardware.

@HauntedOwlbear noooooo :sadness:
@lashman my feelings exactly
@HauntedOwlbear Hosting a PDS (data store & cryptographic signing capability) is basically trivial.
The Relays and the AppViews and the tough & expensive part, and are how Bluesky Inc retains control whilst being able to bullshit about "decentralization" - b/c it's possible to have your own PDS.
@kittylyst cool, a self hosted PDS represents a satisfactory minimum level of control over my data for me, at least for a business oriented presence.
(Although why they didn't use any of the existing standards is... Not all that mysterious actually)
Really useful link, thank you!
@devlin yeah. Although holding my own data in my own premises will reassure me a little, I really don't want to be used as someone else's content generator in an effort to create another monopoly.
But where the industry goes, if I want to be visible... Maybe.
@HauntedOwlbear I really don't want to, but I fear I'm going to have to eventually. I'm sick of big corpo socials.
