@olav @yogthos Except they don't? Completely control it, I mean.
They plan.
They set policy.
They monitor outcomes and change policy.
But it's ludicrous in extremes to think *anybody* can "control" an economy.

@olav @yogthos Oh, you're one of those, are you.
Yes. There are some ghost cities that were built that people decided not to move to. (So much for your "control" of an economy! Must be one of those Schroedinger Controls.)
But note: they built them. There's housing for about 50-60 million people in surplus in China.
How's the housing situation in your country? (Hint: absolutely fucking shitty.) Which do you think is better? A surplus or a shortage? (Hint: the former.)
Specks and beams.
@yogthos They've been doing a lot of coping since 2010 at least. I think Americans need to actually leave their country and see other places because their notions of how things work and look outside of the USA needs some radical adjustment if they want to survive as anything of influence.
@yogthos And vice versa.
A lot of people here have almost delusional ideas of life in the USA based on the sunny view given by entities like Voice of America or assorted movies. It's good for them to hear unfiltered American voices back.
> โฆbut would never have imagined it happening so quickly in a developed country.
And this is why you failed. Just the sheer arrogance of assuming all y'all were just above it all.
@feld @gsuberland Every time I hear this blockchain shibboleth, I ask "how, precisely, does a silly, expensively-generated number stop someone from mixing unethically-sourced material in a shipment? Or draining, say, a tanker of legit high quality olive oil and refilling it with low quality crud that has some food colouring? Or ...
I genuinely don't see how "TEH BLOKKCHAYNE" solves the *real* problems of supply chains.
I'm willing to be enlightened, though.
@br00t4c Sell eggs with a 500% outbound tariff.
@jacklaridian Waitwut!? Is that authentically her or a parody account?
Just to be clear, this is not my logo. I've tried my best to find the original artist, but have not as of yet, so can't credit it. Once I do I will credit properly.
I've made one alteration to this logo: the original was all white background, I've instead made it white haloed. This should be possible to get turned into a UV DTF sticker which ardent fans of the Apartheid Manchild can apply to things they own to express their fandom.

It goes without saying, naturally, that sticking this emblem onto a Tesla that is not owned by you personally is a Bad Thing because UV transfer stickers are damned near permanent and attempts by a non-you owner to remove it would likely result in damage unless they took it to a pro.
So don't do it. Is the only official position I will publicly take on this issue.

@RamenCatholic @Athena @JessTheUnstill Yes. A bit of empathy for the brown-skinned people outside of the USA who are now looking at getting even MORE American (an their allies like Russian) bombs dropped on their head because the narcissistic nitwit they just hired into the highest office might need a diversion from egg prices.
I'm so happy to hear an actual American citizen showing concern for the people living in terror outside the USA's border for a change.
@yogthos The funniest thing to me about how the free-for-all market supposedly spawns innovation is ... its purported believers clearly don't actually believe it.
If you look inside a corporation with more than about 10 people in the west you generally see a pretty rigid, top-down structure. In the successful ones there's a vision around which funding and activity is planned.
The very few corporations that tried to live the talk with internal free markets burned themselves to the ground.
Seen in Ottawa. It seems increasingly that Canadians are fed up with American shit now and we've started with our very own "Freedom Fries" moment.
OH: "Time zones are so weird. In Iceland it is 10pm. In Mexico it is 3pm. In the USA it is 1930s Germany."
@CindyWeinstein The difference between Chinese culture and American culture is most starkly spelled out right here.
Historically in China universities and their analogues have been the hotbeds of rebellion and revolution. The Chinese government is *acutely* aware of this and monitors schools very thoroughly to head off problems before they begin.
In the USA schools are so much part of the system that they quietly and meekly acquiesce to the government so there's no real need for oversight.
