    @JessTheUnstill you're not wrong, but it sucks being called the villain. Especially when one tried to prevent this shit from happening, and is part of the resistance.

    For those of us who are the intended victims of the regime, it hurts (a lot) to be grouped in the people who want us dead. #USPol

      @Athena I didn't say "he's not my president" and I pointed out that OP is basically right. Please do not put words in my mouth.

      I feel like you aren't getting my point: a little empathy for people living in terror is a goodness.

      @RamenCatholic
      all that shit applies to me. I live in america, I tried to stop it, I’m trans and definitely in a target group.

      stop fucking saying “he isn’t my president”. that’s delusional bullshit; he is your president and my president and the president of everyone in the us until and unless we fucking do something about it instead of pretending the spirit of the Rule of Law is going to descend from the heavens like an eagle and save us

      if you don’t like being grouped in with everyone else in the us, too fucking bad

      > Yeah I’d like some of that as a trans person living in terror.

      Trans, disabled person here. I've been living in constant terror too. I feel abused and/or neglected by just about everyone and I'm sick of it.

      That's why I'm asking my so-called allies: try to understand why those of us who are getting shit on by the rest of the country (AND the entire world) would like an umbrella?

      But I'll happily go fuck myself (to paraphrase your, er, suggestion), the endorphins may help me feel better for a few minutes.

      Yeah I’d like some of that as a trans person living in terror.

      Instead the main things I get are gaslighting that it isn’t that bad, tone policing, and lectures about thinking of the feelings of cis people. Fuck you.

      @Athena you are completely misreading this.

      > by means other than telling trans folks to think of the feelings of cis people.

      That's the OPPOSITE of my ask - I'm asking OUR allies to think of the feelings of people like US* (the queer, disabled, POC, immigrants, etc) who have to survive everyday in the country that hates us.

      *("Us" being an inclusive word for people, not "the US.")

      @RamenCatholic Understandable. Please do it, going forward, by means other than telling trans folks to think of the feelings of cis people (all the previous people Jess was replying to, to be clear).

      @Athena ah! I see the problem!

      To me, this whole-ass thread starts with:

      > Stop it with the "Not All Americans" bullshit. It's the same as the "Not All Men" or "Not All White People" bullshit.

      I don't see an upthread, so I probably have the person you're talking about blocked or muted. Or the app is being fucky.

      My apologies, I walked into what appeared to be a stand-alone comment but was an ongoing conversation.

      .....

      Either way, I don't blame "all" Russians for Putin, or "all" Israelis for Bibi, or "all" Palestinians for Hamas, etc ... and I'm glad I feel that way, otherwise I fear I'd be a bigot-in-training. (Not to accuse anti-American sentiment as bigotry, this country is fuuuucked).

      @RamenCatholic, there hasn’t been an “ally” in this thread since TheFwGuy two posts above your first so I am left mystified as to how your original comment here is meant to accomplish that goal.

      @Athena fair points.

      I was raised in a fundy "christian" household where everything was black & white, so I generally dislike generalizations.

      Thank you for your patience! I'm glad we kept engaging instead of playing the block game 💚

      @RamenCatholic ah the delights of federated social media. Lovely.

      Responsibility (I don’t think “blame” is a useful concept, generally) for the actions of a country’s leaders is a complicated topic, but I don’t think we even need to get into that here. The original statement was that “not all americans” is equivalent to “not all men” or “not all white people”, phrases which are nominally good sentiments (as you note in the analogous countries example, there are some good men and good white people [too damn few, on both counts]) but in practice are almost exclusively used to absolve a member of the problematic group of any responsibility whatsoever because they don’t like the stuff the people in their group is doing.

      That seems to be how “not all Americans” type sentiments are being used today, complete the same gross, evasive connotations as “not all men” etc. Like white supremacy impacts me too and I do what I can to fight it but that doesn’t mean I get to whip out “not all white people” to make myself feel better when a person of color is telling people off.

      @ZDL

      Keep reading, there was a disconnect in the thread based on the way Fedi works (missing posts). Therefore I was responding

      I'm just saying that "all americans" include the brown, queer, disabled people who are victims in the regime.

      Let me create an example:

      Would you say "all germans" INCLUDING Jews, Roma, Gays, etc... were in some way to blame for Hitler?

      'Cause that's how "all Americans" feels to me as a queer, disabled, off-white American (who really wants to get the hell out of America before I end up in a camp, but can't afford to & no-one else wants me anyway).

      @RamenCatholic @Athena @JessTheUnstill Yes. A bit of empathy for the brown-skinned people outside of the USA who are now looking at getting even MORE American (an their allies like Russian) bombs dropped on their head because the narcissistic nitwit they just hired into the highest office might need a diversion from egg prices.

      I'm so happy to hear an actual American citizen showing concern for the people living in terror outside the USA's border for a change.
