@rasmusfleischer Odd Lots har en hel del intressanta avsnitt, men jag blir ibland vansinnig över alla deras blinda fläckar och alla aspekter och ämnen som helt enkelt inte finns i deras begreppsvärld.

Saw someone on Twitter ask if 'we can change locks on the Whitehouse while he's gone' and like yes, timing a coup to when the head of state is out of the country and will have a hard time reacting in time is absolutely a time-honored tradition, and you'd better start some serious planning and organising to do one.

@dalias Sure, but this should make it a well-known security concern, which a company that explicitly markets themselves as The Safest Option For Whistleblowers should know about and know to avoid. @rysiek

@dalias I don't know, I'm not deep in the field, but Signal is just one of those companies which continually has made choices that baffle me. Tying user ID to phone numbers and leaking Signal usage through contact lists, refusing federation and secure distribution through f-droid, implementing Stories and fucking cryptocurrency integration instead of useful group chat features (moderation tools, subchannels).. @rysiek

@rysiek Yeah no shit. I'm not sure how I feel about Signal having this kind of honestly quite shoddy security engineering. The safest device is the one you don't use, and the most useful device is the one everyone can access to do everything, but to me this feels very much like another case of Signal wanting to have their cake (marketing themselves as critical security infra for dissidents) and eat it too (making usability tradeoffs that don't support that threat model).. @dalias

@rysiek They didn't already do that!? You could just link devices from scanning a QR code with no further interaction!?

@rysiek Well that's something at least, but holy shit we've really fucked up how people react to confirmation dialogues haven't we? ("We" being software developers as a collective)

@Aleums I wonder if this eventuality could have been foreseen in any way and potentially any sort of contingency plans made, resources spread out, alternative organisations formed etc.

I've been on the fediverse since a _long_ time, previously mostly on social.umeahackerspace.se, seen a lot of things move, seen a lot of things cool down.

I am, in no particular order, a musician of various kinds, a programmer, an academic, a white cis guy, a hacker, a burned-out activist (#telecomix among other things), a teacher, a student, appreciative and occasionally a contributor of art, of thought, and of justice.

Coming from #theoreticalCS (with applications in #NLP) to doing #digitalhumanities (computational #musicology), I've now landed in #ResponsibleAI. Specifically, I'm interested in exploring #AntiCapitalistAI, both sharpening existing critiques of current AI practise by confronting capital and exploring inherent politics of technologies, and finding better ones for a socialist world.
