I did a test in Romania, #meshtastic vs #meshcore and here is the quick summary:

Over 250 Meshtastic nodes found, compared to 70 Meshcore nodes.

BUT

Meshtastic was basically dead, no one talked, or answered anything. I only got one message with the following - "test"
Compare that to Meshcore, where I got hundreds of messages and people where fast to give me recommendations regarding restaurants and places worth to visit.

The meshcore coverage was also great, with some repeaters on mountain tops (2000 meters high) that connected the bigger cities to each other.

Connection to Bulgaria and Serbia was also working great.

My TL;DR conclusion is that people set up a Meshtastic node, then get bored and forget about it, while people that wants more, and really gets into offgrid-mesh moves over to Meshcore

Our makerspace needs new 3D-printers. I was originaly set for #bambulab but with the apparent non respect for #GPL

Which 3D-printer should I look into? Is there any printer that does not require too much tinkering?

That was actually the reason I bought linux.pizza is the first place. I talked to the original owner of happypenguin.org in 2017 about buying the domain, and build a refreshed website for it.

He stopped responding sadly, and the domain expired - and a gambling site bought it.

I just found an old thread from 2022 about it,

Jag är långt ifrån en expert, och kan verkligen inte allt i detta. Men jag tycker att Heltec v3 är den bästa enheten att ha om man vill komma igång till ett billigt pris utan för mycket krångel.

Gillar man att pilla, så finns det billigare enheter att få tag på.
Annars så är det LilyGO ECHO som annars är den bästa om man vill lägga lite extra och få längre räckvidd.

Tyvärr finns det inte jättemånga enheter som är helt "standalone" - utan man behöver en mobil eller dator med blåtandanslutning.
Men iochmed att det är open source, så borde det vara relativt enkelt för den som är smart att bygga en enhetet med svenskt tagentbord :)

Line of sight - rekordet för LoRa är 1336 km - meshtastic bygger på samma teknik fast sändarna är betydligt mindre. Har du line of sight kan du absolut få ut ett par mil om du har en bra antenn.
Annars brukar man säga 3-6 km med en lite handhållen enhet vid öppen terräng.
