     They add it because they can spy on you, too. And use the Internet to stop your device from working. It's for backdoors, so they can "alter the deal" even after you bought it, or blackmail you. ("You have used this device in inappropriate ways so you can't complain.")

     @zleap Not exactly "dillusion" as much as trying to appeal to the "dumb masses"...
     They know very well it doesn't need to be but it's what appeals to the dumb masses (and thus sells well) so they will add it.
     If it also means they can more easily add planned obsolescence? Even better!

     These vendors know very well what they are doing.

     the vendors are under some dillusion everything needs to be connected to the internet and or needs AI. But yeah, also about getting you to buy in to their services.
