@evan there is one problem I potentially see with closing the borders: trans people from the US who might be seeking asylum in the next few months and years.

@evan directly in my city, which is not a major city (so the first option I guess). Maybe I should host a #Eugene fediverse event before I move out. Thanks for giving me the idea :p

Is there a tool to check a YouTube channel to see if/where it is on #PeerTube ? I'd like to switch as many of my RSS feeds over to that, because I'd rather not have anything to do with Goolag.

@evan No, but not because of being Jewish, rather, that nobody should have leading roles in my view.

@evan considering that it's a cause of a significant amount of intergenerational trauma, including among my own people, I'm inclined to believe it ultimately makes inter-ethnic tensions worse than allowing people to live together regardless of their background, and to strive towards reconciliation together.

@hakan_geijer thanks for not recommending that absolutely abysmal guide from the Neighborhood Anarchist Collective. I feel like it's actively harmful for such a guide as theirs to exist given how terrible much of the advice is

@evan purely as a hobbyist pursuit is best in my view. I can't stand how obsessed so many people are with monetization and making everything a business. It's not really their fault as individual creators since that's just capitalism, but still.

Hey fellow techies, I'm thinking of switching off of Hyprland to a different tiling window manager. I have a couple requirements:

    1. It must use Wayland
    2. It must support window swallowing or some similar functionality

Worst case scenario, I'll just switch back to GNOME but I'd rather not resort to that

@dalias @mcc I consider any form of governance to be just dictatorship lite. But I can understand why one would disagree with such an assessment. I simply do not think it is right to have any sort of hierarchy and I think it is one of the biggest flaws with both centralized and federated models of social networking.

@dalias @mcc there's no option to not have an admin that doesn't also require taking on that role yourself. I would prefer to have all interactions be handled directly between users in a peer-to-peer manner. At least then there truly is no hierarchy involved.

@dalias @mcc in that respect, I suppose instance admins are more like nonprofit executives, who are also still little dictators. At least users can choose who's boot they're under /s

@mcc mastodon and the fediverse more broadly is extremely authoritarian imo. Instance admins are little dictators who get to control what information that "their" users see.

@antidotezine PSL basically dominate the pro-Palestine movement in my city and are partially responsible for laundering explicitly pro-Hamas and antisemitic rhetoric into the so-called "Anti-Imperialist Coalition". I had to distance myself from any pro-Palestine actions in Eugene because of the lack of real alternatives to this coalition which made me feel unsafe and unwelcome. It doesn't help that the coalition is supported by every single local activist group regardless of their own ideology and even regardless of how many participants in those groups have voiced their own concerns regarding PSL that mirror the infographic.

@evan I used to be part of a secret society in high school, so qualified no. I do very much miss that even though we didn't do much aside from a little bit of mutual aid. It collapsed because everyone who was involved graduated

@abolisyonista one of the most bizzare content warnings I've read. I love it!

Anyways, yeah this certainly is worth thinking more about. My perspective is that the most ecologically sound approach would be to let more and more greenery grow wild. I'm partly inspired by many of the gardens in my city, which tend to be very wild and are composed of local wildflowers and wild grass. They're the core of my vision for anarchist ecology: total freedom for the plants to grow as they please as long as it's not harming other plants.
