@evan @Mushi @galactus I do think that it's worth incorporating DIDs into ActivityPub implementations (as I understand it, the current webfinger-based usernames fall outside the spec, please correct me if I'm wrong). Otherwise I couldn't care less about AT Protocol. I just want to be able to talk to my friends regardless of where they are.

@evan it's kinda a moot point given that the Republicans will control all three branches of government when sworn in. Even if these other branches could reign him in, they won't or at most will only do so a tiny bit.

@abolisyonista I suppose my approach would be to think in terms of individuals and their particular capacities rather than either a public or state capacity (how unexpected for an individualist anarchist /s). How much can an individual contribute to [insert thing here] or alternatively accomplish on their own? Given the complete lack of involvement of the state in this way of thinking, I'd consider it to be quite liberated.

@abolisyonista I can't have hope when I'm unable to even find legit anarchists in my city. The only "anarchist" group here is one that's functionally a nonprofit corporation with a vaguely solarpunk aesthetic

@dansup there unfortunately are some physics limitations for interplanetary internet. Light travelling from Earth to the Moon takes about a second, which as far as we know is the speed limit of the universe. That means at minimum there is about a second of delay for all internet traffic between Earth and the Moon. For Mars, it's about 3 minutes with the same limitation. While most of the time this probably wouldn't be an issue, it could pose problems for applications that require real-time communication with minimal latency, such as online games and video calls.

@abolisyonista I'm still highly skeptical especially since where I live most of the local activist scene are authoritarians, including even the so-called "anarchists". I really don't feel hopeful at all and expect the end result to be either more of the same or a more brutal dictatorship or something like that. Nothing seems to actually lead to anarchy.

@olivia @kirby btw if your instance isn't Akkoma and you're an admin I highly recommend supporting federation over Tor and i2p. It makes the experience better for people on hidden service instances and makes it more feasible to set up an instance without having to buy a domain
