@pepsi_man @graf @sickburnbro I'm fine with having an agency making sure nobody dumps into rivers or pollutes groundwater. Also a certain amount of airborne pollution regulation, the sky-darkening kind. Those are the legitimate cross-jurisdictional, social harm for private gain things that would need federal power to regulate between states. I'd even go in for wilderness preservation, though I'd prefer state level for that, and it should mostly be under the Department of Interior instead.
Trying to regulate carbon and plastic bags and crap like this is way out of any remit for a federal agency.

@deprecated_ii When you map out equilibriums in economics or game theory, one of the important lessons is that some of the approaches are one-way paths. Everything is not a pendulum. Things can achieve a new stable state without necessarily having a path back to the previous state.
Destructive events (like Covid) move you to new states that can't be reversed with "creative" or positive events.

@RustyCrab @PurpCat @sneeden Libraries and archives have explicit carveouts to copyright. IA basically said "yo we're a library" and started lending out virtual copies of books, a similar system to what actual libraries do. The lawsuit said the organization doesn't meet the traditional definition of a library, courts agreed, so they don't get the copyright and virtual lending rights.
I think they're still recognized as a proper archive though, or it hasn't been challenged hard in court yet.

@sun @coolboymew Four years ago they thought they'd have Kamala popular enough to win a 2nd term by now, with DeSantis lined up to take a fall. Neither happened.
Now they need Joe to sleepwalk over another fraud-paved finish line, so she can get her HISTORIC FIRST by default while they finish off Trump for good. They literally have no one else feasible to even try another option.

@graf @Clapp @munir This is why it's super important to always be racist on public accounts.
If you don't say nigger a few times a week, you are letting the machines win.

@sickburnbro Everyone claiming they learned a lesson in 2016 intentionally learned the wrong lessons.

@sun I'm already angry about dumb stuff like video games, there's no place in my schedule for more anger consooming.
Sometimes I wonder if the outrage economy ever thinks through saturation levels. Like in movies, you can't keep genre trends going for more than 1-2 decades, all the main output plus copycats flood the market.

@sun How is that surprising enough to make a video about?

@BowsacNoodle It says something when the only funny bit SNL has had for a decade, is a gag that lets a white guy sound racist.

@FreeinTX @Goalkeeper @qwerty I'm pretty sure the jury instructions are an automatic appeal win. Not sure what the remedy would be for trial error like that, I assume a whole new trial.

@FreeinTX @qwerty He should do it anyway. Every lawsuit against him is filled with unprecedented explorations of the law.
What is NY going to do, sue him for doing federalism wrong?

@sun You were thinking with the wrong head.

@sun This survey is cowardly. You shuffled the ranges to avoid having 1-2, the clear yet predictable answer.

@BowsacNoodle @Paultron The good ones aren't as obvious. They'll accurately show a room, but the furniture is a little too clean, and the lighting is a little too perfect and impossible.

@sickburnbro Because eyes are on it now. Retreat when people are watching, retrench when they aren't.
DEI is the bastion of the radical revolutionary left, who are the same ones championing Palestine for decades. Now they're making universities look bad, so they have to be punished. But the universities didn't suddenly ditch their political commitment to the D, the E, or the I; they're just poking a visible group, hoping to fix the optics.
In a year the same people who rammed through DEI policies will be in a meeting that nobody sees, and they'll demand a new department "with reforms and new focus, blah blah". And they'll get it. The donors who didn't rebel the last time DEI got inserted aren't going to rebel the next time, if anything they'll just insist on some Israel-respecting language or something.

@sickburnbro For now. Give them a year, at the next annual meeting when no one's paying attention they'll put it back, and the general budget will just go up a bit more.
