I think there will come a day when mastodon is on it's way out like diaspora is now because it's so artificially limited ( tho even they have encrypted dm's lmao ) when something else comes along and shows actually you can do both timelines and groups at the same time, support other protocols like websub, while running on less resources etc. And think there are a lot of such projects being worked on currently.

like it really seems like Mastodon gets paid by Meta to do nothing while feeding user data directly to zuckerberg, and so what they do in the updates is fuck with the css on the webUI and other pointless things to look like they're doing something, meanwhile there's so many basic problems they don't even address, like how much of the racist harassment shit that comes up be solved by simple regex filters, something that should be foundational to any moderation system.

And they have this entire playbook for feature requests where they gaslight people into thinking it's not technically possible because it's not in the spec or some bullshit, until every other competitor has implemented the feature, and then they when they do it they say "we just wanted to do it right", like no you didn't want to do it, or really, you didn't want to pay someone to do it, because all their money goes into mastodon.social and advertising and C-suit salaries, like it took them years to implement edits lmao

There's a weird resentment they have towards anarchists, it is similar to how conservatives feel about liberals, like a fox news host hating on Obama because he's suave and cool, Leninists are not cool ( with the rare exeptions like Che Guevara, and one can scarcely imagine such a figure emerging today ) so they hate how cool and fun and hip anarchists are, when really they should be the cool ones everyone admires, the problem is the masses are too stupid and haven't read all the theory, that must be it, we'll see who laughs last

The stiuation in Honduras in recent years is a good case study in this, the left-wing LIBRE party has mass popular support and has continued to push fro progressive policies, but in practice making various concessions to foreign capitalists ( our town just got a Denny's and McDonalds yay ) , so it's pink as hell, neo-liberal socialism, and trying to hold onto political power with the ever looming threat of a foreign backed nationalist coup forces them into incredibly compromising position, so most of their 'reforms' end up being very minor / maintaining the basic functions of the government like maintaining infrastructure ( tbf things the previous regime failed to do )

If the nationalists get back in power ( there's an election year ) would mean basically a doge, the complete liquidation of any social safety net and probably the murder of thousands by right wing death squads -- rural paramilitaries continue to assassinate labour and indigenous leaders -- so even this milquetoast social democracy is worth fighting for, but to even suggest, for example the expropriation of the American megacorps like Dole isn't going to fly, the media is, obviously, controlled by the elites who are all anti LIBRE and paint them as extreme communists despite their milquetoast policies

So i think an American socialist party, or possibly socdem takeover of the democrats would look very similar in terms of a highly opportunistic and compromised populist party which inevitably stagnates

The answer in both cases is an autonomous workers movement, pushing from the outside to be more radical or else

@abolisyonista@ni.hil.ist despite my many issues with varying kinds of anarchism, the thing that has always prevented me from going marxist is sheer intellectual lazyness and dishonestly when criticizing their rivals on the left, especially anarchists, which in itself calls into questions their claim of theoretical rigour, in my experienced the best marxist theory tends to come from anarchists, or at least marxists who operate outside of these old isms, like Immanuel Wallerstein or CLR James
