Pair of googly eyes and he just looks like he's stunned by something because he's read the manual for Inkscape.

I think it's partially the fact that people are quite genuine and earnest on Mastodon, and there's a fair amount of whiplash from discussing people being victimised and rioting in the streets to "what games are you playing"

If you don't care about people that's easy. But it is quite hard to turn chatty on and off in the midst of everything going on.

@artemis I'm already seeing that at a freelancer level. Everyone has gone.

@artemis All the "Just in time" people like me you call at the absolute last minute, but local photographers, local designers, anyone in the middle space has just lost all their clients. Artists can always create, but tradefolk are getting hit hard and instantly. What do you even re-train as when adobe sold your workflows to a cymbal clapping monkey and its venture capital burning plagiarism engine.

@artemis The whole design culture is going to be subsumed into "Sure it'll do" aesthetic to save money. Every little flyer will be a canva template. Photolayouts on magazine covers will be increasingly composed by ai design from available stock libraries that have sold out to the monkey. None of it will look as good as before, but "sure it'll do" because you've saved on the price to pay a freelance. And wow you didn't even need to get the materials ready till the night before press.

@artemis Losing freelancing is also reducing economic mobility and flexibility. Once well paid part time/freelance work disappears there's less opportunity to be a work from home parent, and you get into the cycle of child care costs and latchkey children growing up without parents.

I've always fancied running the movie Plague of Zombies as a game. I think there's something about "Zombies working in a Tin Mine in Cornwall" which really does make for a feisty more conflict driven gaslight romp than I'd normally do.

Also it's packed with cultural appropriation by the colonials type stuff which I like too.

Initially Bok was to play the Doctor itself, but this was not to be. There were complications, it was hard to get a costume to fit over the gargoyle suit, hats fell off mid scene, he couldn't get his wings through the doors of the Tardis and Mary Whitehouse complained his horns were phallic symbols.

Bokmania had begun! The world was suddenly all about stone gargoyles dealing with strange plots. It was a type of progressive rock storytelling and had a funky upbeat theme music to match. Possibly @BigJackBrass remembers it. When the first episode of Bok hit the screen and the viewing audience were introduced to the vortex effect and the catchphrase of "Was that Gargoyle there ten minutes ago?" they went wild. Children were literally standing in the street with their mouths open to catch rain

Bok's stories roamed the universe of time and space, and for some reason the garden product section of Trevor State's local ASDA where he found a solar powered crackle glass garden lamp, which went onto become the model for the Illuminarcs, known to children everywhere as "Glassoids".

Matt Irvine went onto build a 35' diameter glassoid which announced itself as the Emperor of Glassoids in a story thought loss for many years.

The chilling cry of "Illuminate" is stlll heard in playgrounds today

By 1973 everyone was obsessed with Bok and competitions were run to literally win a life sized Bok were commonplace. The Radio Times famously printed instructions on the 10th Anniversary cross over episode of Dr Who and Bok, - the first of many mash ups in the future (Studied intensely by many fans like @zozo ). The BBC instructions were however slightly miss scaled and would have resulted in making a grey wetsuit sixty four feet long

There was literally nothing that Bok was not used to advertise for in the late sixties and seventies. Typewriters! Ice Lollies! Hitch-Tow modifications for Austin Allegro Vanden Plas (Beige) and candy like the famous Bok's Sugar Claws - He even got his own action figure to celebrate a new actor wearing the suit -but the best was yet to come...

There had always been Boks of Book (and even today the tiktok bok fans hashtag #tikbokbook) but in 1979 Bok finally got his own comic book from Marvel!

Aimed at 10 year olds its weird decision to focus on cathedral architecture, religious iconography and schismatic beliefs made it a commercial failure but it was relaunched with tat about the show and interviews with minor characters and is still printed today (ish - occasionally)

After the launch of Bok Weekly (later Monthly, and for a brief time Bok and Ulster Tatler) there was no stopping fandom. Games were released! There was an attempted American version reboot (badly received and cancelled after a single cine-movie) and eventually even computer games. Bok and the Mines of Terror required you to do an O-level in Computer Studies in a hateful grammar school to play. It was not a success.
