    @Taskerland I do have a special place in my heart for the 2e gothic/voodoo mash-up Night of the Walking Dead, which I have run multiple times. There is something about swamps and zombies and innocent townspeople terrorised by an unknown monster that appeals.

    I've never played any of the others though.

    The Man in #Seat61 seems like a relic from a forgotten age of the #Internet.

    Seat61.com is a genuinely useful website created by just one guy, a train travel enthusiast who has curated a vast array of information that will help anyone who would like to travel in #Europe by #train

    He is not trying to sell you anything and there are no adverts (apart from a few affiliate ids).

    His website has won various "best travel website" awards. Notably the last one was in 2012.

    The #EuropeanCommission has published an "Impact Assessment on retention of data by service providers for criminal proceedings". It is open for comment until 18 June: https://ec.europa.eu/info/law/better-regulation/have-your-say/initiatives/14680-Impact-assessment-on-retention-of-data-by-service-providers-for-criminal-proceedings-_en

    This is a terrible proposal which will seriously weaken the fundamental #privacy rights of #European #citizens. Please take the time to read it and add your comments. You don't have to be an #EU citizen to comment.

    @urixturing @timbray @pluralistic On Facebook's lack of interoperability by design (1/2):

    Way back in 2008, Facebook announced that Facebook chat would be interoperable with Jabber/XMPP, a widely-used open messaging protocol.

    The feature was added in 2010[1]. Google Talk used the same protocol.

    Facebook cynically used XMPP support to draw in millions of XMPP users before dropping support in 2014.

      Facebook Chat Launches XMPP Support | TechCrunch
      from Jason Kincaid
      If you're a fan of Facebook Chat but haven't been able to use it in your favorite chat client, good news: Facebook has just launched support for Jabber/XMPP, an open protocol that makes it very easy for any chat client or web service to integrate Facebook Chat (it's also the same protocol used by Google Talk). Facebook first announced that it was working on implementing Jabber/XMPP support way back in May 2008, and rumors that XMPP support was on its way began anew in November. There's a chance that this will lead to a surge in Facebook Chat usage, since it can now be easily integrated into just about every chat client out there, including iChat and AIM.

    I started playing #RPGs in the 1980s, when the only form of social media was #WhiteDwarf magazine. When I first got on the Internet, WWW had not yet been invented, but there was USENET. Online forums blossomed through the 2000s, but were eclipsed by the walled gardens of Big Tech in the 2010s. Now I roam the open spaces of the fediverse.
