I remember when Divorce was a big issue. If you got divorced, you left the church. No fault divorce went through the church like a forest fire. The pews emptied out. In desperation, the evangelicals called the divorced "singles" and put in Sunday School classes 'n everything for them.

P(Ace) = (Number of favorable outcomes) / (Total number of possible outcomes)

Let's break it down:

Favorable outcomes: These are the outcomes we're interested in, which is drawing an Ace. There are 4 Aces in a standard deck.

My grandparents were missionaries in Yunnafu area, up the Salween River. My mother's first languages were Lisu and putonghua. Several of their children were born in Burma. Loing story: most of my mother's friends died in Japanese concentration camps.

I believe culture is bound up in language, its words and phrases worth preserving in living people, not just books.

Unity is a worthy goal, but so, too, is diversity. These languages need saving.
