Still not sure why there is so much shock and surprise in response to the #OpenAI drama. The moment I learned the nonprofit had started a for-profit and taken billions from Microsoft, it seemed inevitable that the tail would end up wagging the dog, and OpenAI would be dominated by money motives.

It wasn't guaranteed to be so dramatic, and of course the details could have played out many different ways. But something like this was going to happen.

I can't be the only one thinking this.

I'm just going to keep reposting this occasionally, for my sake as much as for yours. #JOMO #FOMO

Any intro to mastodon or fediverse which didn't communicate this would be incomplete, no? (Unless you, say, recommend and assume the community of mastodon.social and similarly-run big servers if you're talking about Mastodon.)

@chrismessina @gwachob @erincandescent @lanodan @evan Forgive me if stating the obvious but just because something's been around 15+ years doesn't mean it isn't relevant to this moment. Some things take decades or longer before they reach their most powerful time.

Related - I still believe that in the long run, wikis will have more influence on global culture than blogs. It's just that blogs (aka tweets or 'status' posts) fit the dominant culture's focus on the now, the latest/shiniest thing.
