While it is absolutely true that cryptocurrency is presently 99% scamtastic and that it deserves nearly all the hate it gets...

...this is one of the reasons why it will almost certainly survive, and perhaps thrive.

There are quite a few people *today* who avoid this exact problem thanks to #cryptocurrency .

That was the "to me" part, sure. You may prefer how "real apps" operate in your experience, but seems to me you'd want to address the objectively true things:

They take up more space and more overhead, they're harder to audit, very frequently they're doing unintended/hidden/unreported data collection on users, and they can be limited by device/proprietary in harmful ways.

Generally an inferior idea all around.

Again, the "trust me" is weird. You are (to me at least) just wrong. I have seen web apps that are just fine.

Moreover, the overhead of installing yet another app is just often NOT worth it; especially since MANY apps don't just "do the thing, " they "Do the thing and harvest your info."

IMHO, except perhaps navigation, and maybe email but only because e.g Outlook has f***ed it up and we have less choice --

a good web app could easily replace all of these because there's little interactive heavy lifting. It's basically multimedia codecs or simple text. I mean, I do 2fa codes from the *command line*

Not to get too spicy, but "saying it repeatedly doesn't make it true" -- I do see it for some of your more complex applications, but, like you can't just **blanket** that kind of thing.

heck, I wrote my *own* rss reader in PHP and it's faster and easier than any app I've ever seen, and I don't code for a living.

I mean, it's by definition *relevant.* It is genuine curiosity as well? I personally don't have very many (if any) apps that I believe benefit from "being an app," and having seen things like Obsidian and Discord (which, as I understand it, aren't too far from "web app" under the hood) I just strongly doubt the necessity of specialized apps?

Right -- and honestly *literally* the only reason I'd respond to the thing at all is that it appears to be gaining some notoriety around Mastodon.

And I want Mastodon to gain popularity and work for a lot of people, (especially/including black people) and become *the thing* because its the best model

(which increasingly, I'm seeing is not a particularly popular view)

So, uh, I'm not really feeling this Ro guy and his #thebadspace thing.

He had some wildly goofy shit to say to/about me a while go that hipped me to the fact that he's probably not the type you really want in charge of moderation.

And presently my concern lies with him "speaking for us," as in Black folk, which AFAIK isn't much earned nor appears to be healthy.

I could be wrong here; there's a lot of mess, but I wanted to put it out there.

I am *regularly* accused of "siding with Nazis" for still being on Twitter.

These clowns don't understand that -- yes, I do encourage people to look elsewhere, but Twitter is still a *deeply* important part of black networking, whether casual or organizational.

Then people have the nerve to condescend about it, as if WE'RE not the ones who are EXPERTS at navigating spaces owned by the bad guys.

Honestly, my gut is that it's *exactly* hard-headed hardliners like you that make this place so unappealing to black folks.

Again, people like me have ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS had to work within systems that oppress us. We've almost never had the *luxury* to nope out of places on principle.

So when you suggest that it's impossible to be at twitter without supporting Nazis or whatnot, it betrays a very weird level of digital privilege.
