Emelia 👸🏻 (thisismissem@hachyderm.io)'s status on Sunday, 30-Apr-2023 01:34:43 JST Emelia 👸🏻 @atomicpoet simplicity? idk, maybe not every app needs to be everything? Especially with federated or decentralized identity

Chris Trottier (atomicpoet@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 30-Apr-2023 01:34:45 JST Chris Trottier Jack Dorsey doesn’t want AT protocol to be capable of DMs.
That means they’re probably not coming to Bluesky either.

Emelia 👸🏻 (thisismissem@hachyderm.io)'s status on Sunday, 30-Apr-2023 01:34:45 JST Emelia 👸🏻 @atomicpoet that's probably a good idea.. though mentioned users only posts seems good for stuff that doesn't really strictly need privacy, just quietness?

Chris Trottier (atomicpoet@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 30-Apr-2023 01:34:46 JST Chris Trottier At least Jack Dorsey doesn’t want to run Bluesky through a DAO.

I agree.
I guess Bluesky should decentralize soon.

1. Subscriptions
2. Ads
3. Commerce/Transactions -

Glad to hear he regrets Twitter.
Sooo… when will Bluesky connect to multiple nodes?

Chris Trottier (atomicpoet@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 30-Apr-2023 01:34:48 JST Chris Trottier Call me crazy, but if I was in Jack Dorsey’s position, I would have converted Twitter into a consumer-owned and worker-owned co-op.
Sell it to everyone who uses Twitter and works on it.
That model works for many successful companies.

Chris Trottier (atomicpoet@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 30-Apr-2023 01:34:48 JST Chris Trottier I just asked Jack Dorsey why he doesn’t donate towards helping ActivityPub.
Will he reply? Because I really want to know 🙂

Chris Trottier (atomicpoet@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 30-Apr-2023 01:34:49 JST Chris Trottier But Jack Dorsey also still prefers that Elon Musk own Twitter instead of a bank.
Which is a wild thing to say knowing what we know now.

D:\side\ (dside@mastodon.ml)'s status on Sunday, 30-Apr-2023 01:38:46 JST D:\side\ @atomicpoet a borderline conspiracy theory I'm wondering about is whether Nostr was created solely to prevent the development efforts in decentralized social media from gathering around ActivityPub. In a "divide and conquer" kind of way.

Chris Trottier (atomicpoet@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 30-Apr-2023 01:40:43 JST Chris Trottier @andyn The longer they hold off on decentralization, the harder this is going to be for users when it happens.
Right now, too many of them believe they're getting Twitter 2.0. That's not the case.

Andy :batman: (andyn@social.lol)'s status on Sunday, 30-Apr-2023 01:40:47 JST Andy :batman: @atomicpoet they’re working on it. They’re building in public, so maybe they should have held back, but it doesn’t happen overnight. At least give them a chance to build something before poo pooing all over it.

Chris Trottier (atomicpoet@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 30-Apr-2023 01:40:48 JST Chris Trottier Bluesky users don't want decentralization -- and they're hostile towards it.
They want pre-Elon Twitter.
The more Bluesky grows and keeps to one node, the more these folk who be up in arms when multiple nodes start connecting.

Andy :batman: (andyn@social.lol)'s status on Sunday, 30-Apr-2023 01:40:49 JST Andy :batman: @atomicpoet well that’s too bad for those that don’t read into what they’re getting into I guess. What can they do, just ‘develop it faster’? Development takes time, and I assume they want to do it correctly or there would be an even bigger issue. It’s already a decentralised platform with Bluesky being an access point to it, but expanding it takes time. Throwing your toys out of the pram won’t make it quicker.

jrm4 (jrm4@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 10-May-2023 09:34:45 JST jrm4 @atomicpoet I think it's simpler than a lot of this.
Jack Dorsey *isn't smart*
Another lucky failboy, IMHO.
E.g., I know a lot of people here aren't into crypto, but many of us who get the tech understand that, like it or not, bitcoin's still the early model-t version, and Jack still thinks its viable

Lyons (lyonsinbeta@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 10-May-2023 11:35:54 JST Lyons @atomicpoet it's a common marketing strategy. He props his thing up and doesn't comment/compare to his competitors at all. Acknowledging them is a losing proposition because superior or not it gives a competitor air time instead of being the only topic of conversation.
Imagine how much easier a debate is to win if you never have to stop talking and the audience believes there is only your side.
You're never going to win on the merits of your argument. The only winning move is not to play.
