Not sharing the video, because I don't want to traumatize folks more than they already are, but to do not one but *three* nazi salutes from the post-inauguration rally stage is one of those signature moments that I fear is just the beginning. I take this as a declaration of intent, essentially a declaration of war on the rest of us.
Perhaps we should start painting swastikas on cybertrucks to drive home the point.
@luis_in_brief@skinnylatte@Bronwyn Yes for sure - but Noah's point was that NBA champions calling themselves "world champions" was absurd. You can argue the NBA champion is the world's best but his point stands.
So when USA men won gold last summer they made sure to throw shade at Noah like... you happy now? lol
@luis_in_brief@skinnylatte@Bronwyn Don't doubt that at all. I freely admit that Lyles was trolling. I'm just saying I enjoyed it the troll lol - but I do get annoyed with any pro team, and these are usually American teams, calling their champions "world champions". It always irks me. I don't doubt that an NBA champion would likely thump any other international team, but we can't actually know that if there's no competition.
@skinnylatte ha my wife and I were literally talking this morning about how boring (her words) northern chinese food is - "it's just jiao this and jiao that and some noodles" 😆
@PJ_Evans@mekkaokereke She was touting the support of the Cheneys and other Republicans. If that's not dashing to the center, I don't know what it. The whole "bipartisan advisory board" thing - what would you call that?
@mekkaokereke Just from looking at the total tally, I noticed that voter turnout seems to be about 8 million less than 2020. Trump will end up with about the same number of total votes, and Harris will have about 8-9 million fewer. It shocked me. You are so right - no one was responding to the message after the initial momentum. She could have won, but she listened to her "seasoned veteran advisors" who told her to dash to the center.
Looking at the stats, when all the votes are counted, looks like Harris will have 71-72 M total and trump will have about 74-75 M total. In 2020, it was 81 M for Biden and 74 M for Trump.
Obvious question: did 10 M people just stay at home?
@evan I don't know of any solutions given current conditions. You're right that antisemitism is very real and presents a danger to many. But I struggle with tolerating a system that necessitates the expulsion and systematic oppression of millions of people, especially given the non-jewish origins of said system. I don't see how that serves anyone's interests.
Israel in its current form cannot continue without doubling down on fascist authoritarianism. It will get worse before it gets better.
@evan No, a Jewish state is not necessary. I will not concede that point. That propaganda was developed by antisemitic Christians in the aftermath of the protestant reformation. This is why Zionism as a concept is inherently antisemitic.
@evan Owning an EV is a great way to get a tour of the worst strip malls in suburbia. Sounds like you don't even have that. Do you have Tesla SC access?
For those of us who have been in this industry a long time, this is entirely on brand and not surprising. You underestimate the power of greed and FOMO. To answer your question, they're not thinking about next year or the next couple of years and they're definitely not thinking about societal impact.
