@inthehands Some people (me!) aren’t comfortable in large crowds. So have a separate protest-alone up the street from a bigger one (you’re the opening act people will see before the big event) or in your little town (so you don’t have to drive). Just carry a sign for an hour. You don’t even have to talk to anyone. I was surprised by how many cars honked or people gave me a thumbs up. Other benefits of protesting-alone is you don’t have to Google anything to find or get there on time or find parking a long way off (because everyone else parked closer) or smile at everyone til your face hurts. Protesting-alone is great for introverts. If you see anyone doing this, please be encouraging. It may be their first time.
@inthehands They made Superman way too patriotic and apolitical. If his job is to stop supervillains, he’d surely see Lex or others manipulating the voters, and would then interfere in politics. Thereby reducing human free will.
@inthehands Insurance can operate where there is predictability, even when the prediction is very negative. They just charge more than most customers would like to pay. But not having an insurance market at all…that means the risks are no longer predictable over the periods of time the insurance company requires. That’s the part that should get our attention. Now, I don’t think this is all bad. Corporations are supposed to embrace business risk and get returns that are greater. If the expectation is now that there is no possibility of profit after factoring in risk…that is saying even more. What if the business if growing food, though. Doesn’t that mean we all starve?
@inthehands@kissane I glory in the fact that *someone* employed there had the guts to publish this headline. It’s pretty surprising, tbh. I wonder if they’ll leave it alone if enough lefts wingers $lick on it?
@inthehands I observed that Elon is excellent at convincing tech people to work for him. Either by communicating a vision (often stolen from sci-fi), or by providing attractive incentives. It’s the real tech nerds that get the things done. Plus he’s good at convincing money people to back his plays.
@mattly Every time I type a password into the wrong window, I miss X11 and TWM where there was no such thing as focus stealing. Because they cared about security and the principle of least surprise.
@evan Removing what someone wrote on a “public blackboard” is maybe not a good idea. But breaking the link to their reply off of a post that *you made seems fine. Why should they have the right to hang off “your” spot in the world without limits? And it may be best to have the OP have that authority. They own the original post; why not the meta data of the hierarchy below it? Maybe trimming that graph edge would make the unwanted reply go hang on the replier’s timeline, orphaned.
@GottaLaff Given that Russia is his banker, that “disinterest” is guaranteed. And is why presidents should give up financial control of their estate. And should be able to earn security clearance the normal way: by having no dirty secrets.
@indivisibleteam This (the link in the OP) is one of the best political “ads” I’ve seen in years. Normally, the content is nothing, and the message is send-cash. In contrast, this message is: we can help, you can help, please act, here are 5-6 ways (phone banking, postcards, …). Good job, Indivisible! I wish our politicians would talk to us like the timid, but motivated voters and citizens we are, not bank accounts.
