@inthehands They made Superman way too patriotic and apolitical. If his job is to stop supervillains, he’d surely see Lex or others manipulating the voters, and would then interfere in politics. Thereby reducing human free will.

A literal criminal, openly being criminal, yet somehow he convinces people that he's smart and that the good guys are evil.
If someone (I think Robin?) hadn't played a recording of him talking in private about tricking people he probably would have won. That doesn't work today....

Yeah. For starters, I believe they always gave him a sort of sympathetic back story — instead of just “he was just born with a wretched heart.”
