What comes to mind when you think of Star Trek tech? Transporters, replicators, tricorders, warp drive?

There's something that blows all that away, and we often overlook it, to the point that it's never even talked about on screen, they just take it for granted.

Somebody in Trek canon figured out how to scan and index objects at the atomic level.

That's how tricorders and medical bays work, it's how transporters work, it's how the ship's sensors can distinguish life signs.

Here’s an opinion that may ruffle some feathers.

After two and a half years working with auth0, plus some time trying to implement AWS Cognito, I never want to use a third party authentication system again.

I get it, big businesses don’t want the data liability, but fucking hell… it causes more problems than it solves and makes a lot of basic auth handling three times more difficult.

Handling passwords is not so hard that you need to outsource it!

This is what happens when you let your devs use copilot.

This is supposed to be client-side browser code, but this code does not work in a browser.

It passed in the test suite, because Jest copies the entire NodeJS global namespace into `window`, but `window.Buffer` is not actually a thing.

This change also added over 150k of extra code to the bundle, just to hash an object in order to assert a value change.

This is why exercise is so exceptionally hard for me. I want to do it, I know I need to, but there is no dopamine reward for doing so, only agony and sweat.

@mattly @janl I'm just so tired of big company corpo think. It's so dehumanizing, so disconnected. So much of reducing customer base to metrics. Also would really like to find some place that isn't running on deficit spending of venture capital, but thats basically a unicorn these days.

The death of my father in law has put us in a very interesting position. My wife’s inheritance means I won’t *need* a high paying job any more, just something with good health insurance. That means I can take a job building something fun for a small company, instead of lots of monotonous stuff for a big company.

Most fun I had as an engineer was doing skunkworks development, but I have no idea how to even look for such a job. How does one advertise themselves for something so niche?
