Hot take: profit does not exist.

If you fully implement ecological accounting--that is, deducting from the balance sheet the cost of any environmental damage or degradation caused by production--then you come out even. That's the best we can hope for, because we live in a system that is, apart from the sun's daily energy input, closed.

In other words, all "profit" is exploitation.

First: Sexual assault survivor asks Thomas not to use the word "rape" to refer to what big tech companies do to people's privacy

Second: Thomas asserts that the word "rape" has meanings besides literal sexual assault (an odd assertion to make in response to a request that is predicated on the existence of multiple possible meanings for the word "rape")

There are two possible explanations for why Thomas chose that as a response:

Either Thomas is very bad at reading comprehension

Or

Thomas is a condescending dickwad who chose to be a jerk to sexual assault victims on purpose just so he could make a point about privacy in tech

Which is it, Thomas?

ETA: in case it's not clear, I am also a sexual assault survivor. We're everywhere! And we don't always agree on everything but I think everyone thinks that dismissing our objections and pretending nothing was ever said is a shitty response to us bringing up our preferences vis-a-vis the language used on our timelines.

@starsandinfinity well that's too bad, because "Muslims should condemn Al Qaeda" was some Islamophobic bullshit that arose in the wake of 9/11 and had fuckall to do with Al Qaeda and everything to with making all Muslims everywhere seem complicit with Islamic terrorists, thereby justifying harassment and violence against anyone who wore a turban or a hijab. You really missed that? Are you a very young person or something?

Anyway, the "protesters should condemn Hamas" is serving the exact same function.
