Since people are talking about Kent State, Ohio, 1970, it's a good time to talk about Jackson State, Mississippi, 1970.
Similar situation, except there was no active protest, just a bunch of students hanging out. The mayor of Jackson declared a riot and called in the pigs. Someone threw a glass bottle, not at the pigs, but they still opened fire. Phillip Gibbs, a student at Jackson State, and James Green, a high school student who was walking home from his job, were murdered by cops. Many others were wounded.

Just going to reiterate these helpful little bits of doggerel:
If the Naomi be Klein,
You're doing just fine
If the Naomi be Wolf
Then oof, baby. Oof.
AND
If her name is Parker Posey
Everything is looking rosy
If instead she's Posie Parker
What you've got is something darker
@tillshadeisgone I mean I haven't finished it but just getting to watch Aldis Hodge with wings and extremely fly hair making him look like some kind of ancient king is worth it!
We watched about half of "Black Adam" last night (it's free on Tubi) and actually it was pretty decent. I understand why it wasn't a massive hit, though: all the bad guys are white and all the good guys are Black or brown. All the action takes place in "Kahndaq," which is a clear fictional replacement for Iraq or someplace similar, in the Middle East. BONUS! Aldis Hodge, one of my favorite actors, plays Hawkman, and does it with so much panache! God I love that man.
@tchambers interesting
@tchambers I would want them to make the restored media publicly available too
@tokyo_0 I would take ~any one~ of those. The last time I rode a train was in 2002 and it was an ancient, slow Amtrak from Albany to Seattle. Last time I was in Europe was 1997
I wanna ride a futuristic train ~sigh~
@tillshadeisgone Did you just do those? I was kinda figuring someone had them already
I'm broke right now. But I stay boosting! Come on, friendos!
omg I found this! It's one of my favorite comics, but it never got super popular, so it was hard to find. I ~think~ it's less topical now, but that may just be because I don't encounter guys who do Thing much anymore.
Ah, the classics
Sound advice
aaaaaaahhhhhhhh
GIMS is playing MSG!!
And guess who has two thumbs and tickets to see GIMS???!??!!!
For my French friends: MSG is Madison Square Garden, in New York City
For my American friends: GIMS is the best pop singer ever and possibly the best French rapper ever
43 minutes of ethereal South African beats for ya

@PadreWil hi sweetie, it's because there are racists and the white people who control most of Mastodon's infrastructure can't be bothered to try to exclude them. This is usually the answer to "why do Black people need X" online. Is this your first time considering the needs on Black people in online social spaces?
Devastated that Marina got eliminated before the final lip synch. But I can't deny that Hanna Conda earned it that time.
Chronic illness, probably neurodivergent. White & anti-whiteness. #SolarPunk #Climate #DeGrowth #StrawBale #LivingMachine #Construction #Engineering #Crochet #GreenBuilding #SciFi #AnarchyLiberals DNI. Just kidding, I love you liberals. Don't block me just because I'm right
